Its is not , 5 therefore it is illegal.
The 5 rule has to be taken with what is also being done.
If CSJ and 4 others decide to quietly sit opposite the Istana gate for days on end. What can the police do, except invoke the rule of 5. Rather than use vagrancy laws, or cite security concerns.
And the rules of engagement are always followed. Telling, warning, warning, warning again, then arrest.
People are quick to exploit loopholes in the law.
Everyday there are always groups bigger than 5 that no one pays any attention to, because they are just going about their way. -
Well and Good that the Myanmar issue is kept 'alive'.......

I mean..... his not even able to get himself or any SDP member elected as MP..... and yet instate of trying to connect to more S'porean, there he goes again to 'Martyr' himself....... waste of time and effect.

This arrest thingy is expected and was alredi a foregone conclusion. The 5 of them knew what wud happen to them and yet they went ahead. Just 5 of them standing in the rain carrying placards was easy to bundle up the police van. Wonder what it wud be if there are 50, 500 or 5000. About 1330hr Monday 8.Oct.2007, famiLEE LEEgime arrested Dr. Chee Soon Juan, Ms Chee Siok Chin, Mr. Gandhi Ambalam & Mr. John Tan in front of Istana.
The four were displaying placards "NO ARMS DEALS WITH BURMA" while sending in Burma Crisis Petitions to Istana. The petitions are signed by over 1000 signatories at the front of Burmese Embassy.
4 SDP members were taken by plain clothe police in 2 vans.

To me, the 5 made a peaceful demo. They did not do anything to harm people, destroy things or property, nor did they take anything from anyone. This demo has no criminality other than 'legality'. To those who knew law or studied law - legal is what the law-makers make. Prostituition is immoral but can be legalised! Kissing in public is showing affection but can be criminalised (in some Muslim countries). So gathering of 5 is illegal assembly - why 5? Why not 2?
The arrest yesterday has political overtone, the law was used to make it legal to arrest a non-criminal, non-violent, non anti-social activity.
In this respect, I look at the 5 who made the public demo against the junta in Burma as a show of support for the repressed people of Burma, not just TALK! -

I'm not there because i don't support the SDP leaders and their reasons.
So, i presume, YOU, will protest in the future, cause you have the balls and cause others are doing it? and not for yourself and the good of others?
