Why is it your country is hated by all the others in the region (Thailand, Phillipines and Indonesia) while ours isn't?

being frank lor, they are actually all right and nice people to mix with. Jus onli some 'funny' people, feel jealous that a small nation like us, out beaten them in almost every aspect of life.
Wat to do, they got no place to throw their anger. Govt throw anger in water issue, small Tanah Melayu members, buy computer and throw their temper here lor.
U imagine lah,they have to live with us side by side, for centuries to come, a small red dot which gain independent from them, then now survive better then them, u can sollow ur pride anot if u are them, they cannot wat ,so act like morons here lah. But not all malaysians are like that, the chinese there are quite pissed with their govt. -

Singaporean Malays are very nice people, some of my good friends are Malays. The only problem is they cousins up north, think they can push around, I tell you, one day Malaysia will piss off everyone in the world from America to Nepal, or better still, the muslim countries in the middle east and everyone will join together and hantam Malaysia until they beg for mercy.

Unfortunately, Singapore is no likeable pretty Prom Queen either. Malaysians dislike us for historical and economic reasons. Aussies and US etc think that we are some sort of police state until they needed our help in countering Al Qaeda terrorism in the region. Indonesians hated us before under Habibie and I suppose that immense dislike towards us can be immediately turned on when someone else succeeds Megawati.

It is not the general SGP Citizenry that is disliked by the largely Malay communities of Malaysia and Indonesia, but only toward those few who are over bearing, self-righteous, over confident, and condescending attitudes of SGP Citizens who hold a superior attitude towards our poorer neighbours.
This negative feelings are also largely directed at the SGP Government and its over confident, self-righteous, over bearing and condescending attitudes of the Ruling Personalities, despite their superficial attempts of putting on a humble diplomatic face.
This feeling also stem from their own innate historical inferiority complex and feelings of inadequacy when dealing with SGP; and which is made worst by the stupendous success of SGP despite all their best efforts to see to the failure of SGP. -

Please keep in mind that Singapore has its own fair shares of diplomatic snares with other nations as well. Humans by nature are not perfect and governments, being made up by people, are not perfect as well. It is not possible to ensure good diplomatic relationships with all nations every time.

it is especially difficult to ensure good diplomatic relations when the diplomatic corp is staffed by ill-mannered brats who do not even care to observe proper diplomatic protocol. -
The maid case was one of them. But I do hope you keep this discussion constructive. I am here to discuss the issue objectively and I do not wish for this to degrade to name calling on both sides.

we're not exactly enemies with USA and the Philipines now. we try not to ruffle too many diplomatic feathers at any one time too.
and i am saying it as it is. your diplomats are immatured spoilt brats who don't know basic manners, much less observe diplomatic protocol.
just as hosts are obligated to honour their guests, guests are expected to pay common courtesy to their hosts and not insult them. they arrived late, abruptly changed the agenda and left without eating the meals we, as hosts prepared for them. u call that good manners?
Sg diplomats went over, got greeted by a rude banner and ended up wasting valuable time protesting to this ridiculous game childish M'sian negotiators tried to play.
we may be legalistic and unwilling to yield but thats because the legal position enables us to. and protocol is always observed. -

What about LKY going on diplomatic visits to the former Soviet Union when Singapore is still a part of Malaysia? Is that the protocol as well? Each side has done something that on hindslight we as outsiders feel is wrong. We should not judge a nation for the actions of a few. I can assure you that Malaysians on the whole do not behave as such.

I agree that your side plays alot on legalistic position...but have you all considered the emotional aspect of the problem? You may win in the court...but do you all ensure good relationships with your neighbours in at the same time. Of course, I am not claiming that Malaysia is a saint in dealing with such issues...we have ruffled many feathers as well...but the point I wish to make is that there are too many causes which leads to the outcome that we see.

you mean they were catering to a local audience? well... i guess one is being naive in assuming that foreign policy is notmerely an extension of domestic policy.
on the subject of people: i find it strange that raw water touches a raw nerve amongst M'sians but nobody talks about buying Sg treated water at a heavily subsidised price; only that Sg sells it to ships calling at our ports.What about LKY going on diplomatic visits to the former Soviet Union when Singapore is still a part of Malaysia? thats not the only breach the fact that LKY remained PM instead of chief minister? a breach of protocol as well. but thats ancient history. the fact that Sg has seperated in an irreversible fact.
Sg on the whole feel slighted and insulted by the whole affair. the water agreement is part of the seperation agreement. and M'sia is being very insensitive to this.

have u considered the emotional effect of some reckless politicians or loud mouthed activist who clamour to cut the water supply to Sg every time there is a bilateral spat?
it is a constant irritation to us. next time u wonder why Sg is so arrogant, insensitive and legalistic, tell your politicians to look in the mirror. they are the cause of it.
