So who is leading Singapore now. How would the Straits Times react to this differentiation.
Will Straits Times' journalists be permitted to write analytically on the citizens' facing rising costs of living due to government's own persistent habits of raising of fees making clever but exploitative small regular adjustments from medical care to public transport to double-charging on lands in sale of HDB flats and triple charging on vehicle ownership. -
Will the press place Singaporean interest above PAP interest?
If PAP had made a policy mistake and is willing to spend political capital to cover up their mistakes, will our "credible" newspapers criticize?
In elections , would the newspaper serve party interest or would they serve Singaporean interest? -

The Propaganda Wing swings into action
We don't normally post reports by the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) but this one is so exceptionally bad that we have made...well, an exception.
It's the report by The New Paper of the proceedings at the Burmese embassy and the Istana.
The headline, subtext and text all have one purpose and one purpose only – and it's not to keep its readers informed.
To be sure, there has never been any love lost between the Singapore Democrats and the PAP media.
But the folks at SPH would even slant the report to make the Burmese embassy officials look good in order to take its swipe at the SDP.
Our relationship is really that bad.
Ms Liew Hanqing tried to present the Burmese ambassador as some sort of respectable diplomat that the SDP leaders were trying to meet.
She described that even the ambassador's representative refused to “entertain” us. We must have been doing something wrong to deserve such a snub. Shame on us!
Ms Liew also covered up the fact that the official repeatedly said that he did not want his picture taken and refused to give his name and position when asked.
The SDP has dealt with diplomats from all over the world and none of them have objected to their photographs taken, much less try to hide their identity. Ms Liew, by not reporting such facts, tries to give a favourable impression of the official.
The report also mentions that Dr Chee Soon Juan tried reading the letter to the embassy official when in fact it was Mr Ambalam.
In her eagerness to run-down the SDP secretary-general she got her facts wrong. But so what? They're just facts, this is the SPH we talking about.
The report is so over-the-top, even by PAP standards, that we reproduce it here for readers to judge for themselves.

Does SDP expect Ms Liew to project foreign diplomats in Singapore deplorably ? Whats wrong with Ms Liew describing the situation as such ? That the diplomat refused to entertain him. Ms Liew got her facts wrong, allegedly it was Mr Ambalam who read out the letter rather than Chee. SDP projects that Ms Liew was trying run down Chee. However, if that act does not put Chee or SDP in a good light, then why let Ambalam do it in the first place? What does that mean ? "Hey it was Ambalam ok, not Chee! Don't try to run me down, run him down ?" Should it be reported that the diplomat doesn't want to take a picture with SDP?

I picked up the papers today and found that Hongkong is cutting corporate taxes. Its hard to pick that up from alternative media. You may be pissed that Singapore mainstream media dishes out propaganda, it would be unfair to say that they have no value as a source of information. They have much more information to offer than alternative news websites. This is the extent of analytical writing the Straits Times journalists are allowed to write.
So isn't it hypocrisy for MM Lee to now say that our local press has failed to write in-depth analysis of problems or issues.
Through sheer curbing of freedoms of the journalists to write objective views and analysis in the past the local newspapers only churn out good reports and good news wholesale from the government while shunting out any news which tend to be critical of the government.
This has been our freedoms of expression in our land. There is no need to ban any articles. All that is needed to appoint editors from their own elites group to replace those who are ambivalent like Sabano and the signal would have been enough to tell all to behave.
The government probably now finds that with the internet being so prevalent it is no longer to continue to practise such control of press freedoms,
So it will have to come up with control like putting in their own elites on board theonlinecitizen to influence opinions.
Many scholarships have been offered to grade-A students who would be returned as senior writers or editors to serve the Straits Times and all editors will just have to toe the line. -

But why in the first place did Singapore support the junta in the first place? Is it business or investments in its internal resource or partnership for balance of power within Asean?
Why change of heart now? Is it that the internal strife is so overwhelming that the junta is seen as no longer useful as a partner to Singapore in the Asean block.
If the junta is still useful and will serve Singapore's strategic purpose for some years and there is stability in the present situation then there is a lot of sense the younger Lee will play the Asean card of non-interference with its internal affairs. -

SINGAPORE, Oct 10 - Singapore, one of Myanmar's biggest investors, is under pressure from rights groups to use its economic clout to push the generals down along a more democratic path.

According to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Singapore was Myanmar's largest source of foreign funding last year with US$47.5 million in investments, followed by Russia and Britain.
Singapore is a key investor in Myanmar's tourism sector, provides medical care for the regime's generals and is seen as a financial centre for the Myanmar elite.
"There are not many countries that the military regime can rely on today, and Singapore is one of them," Sann Aung, a Bangkok-based leader of the government-in-exile set up after the junta ignored the 1990 election results, told Reuters.
The city-state's links with the junta have come under fire from rights groups and led to calls to take a tougher stance.
European Union parliamentarians visiting the island last week called on Singapore to ease bank secrecy laws and seize assets of Myanmar's generals, or risk a proposed pact with the EU.
Burma activist groups last week urged the U.S. Senate foreign relations committee to compel Singapore banks to freeze the accounts of junta leaders, and prohibit U.S. institutions from dealing with those that refuse.
Freezing the overseas assets of Myanmar's generals "would at least deprive the regime of the means to buy more weapons, and put pressure on it to carry out reforms," said Debbie Stothard of the Bangkok-based Alternative ASEAN Network on Burma.
But Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong denies the generals are using Singapore as a money-laundering centre.
"We don't play dirty money, we don't condone money laundering. Our rules against that are as strict as any other financial centre - London, Hong Kong, New York," Lee told CNN.
Singapore's three banks -- all of which operate offices in Myanmar -- have declined comment, citing banking secrecy laws.
"DIRTY LIST"
Analysts say that without Singapore's expertise in areas such as airline, airport, and hotel management, Myanmar would be a much less comfortable place for its ruling elite.
Myanmar's top international airline, Myanmar Airways International, is a joint venture between the Myanmar government and Region Air, a company owned by hotel and property tycoon Ong Beng Seng, one of Singapore's best-connected businessmen.
Activist group Burma Campaign UK lists 10 Singapore firms on its "Dirty List" of companies for their involvement in Myanmar, including banks DBS, UOB and OCBC, and conglomerate Keppel Corp.
Yangon's The Strand Hotel, Myanmar's top hotel and sister to Singapore's Raffles Hotel, is jointly owned by Myanmar's tourism authorities and Singapore-based General Hotel Management.
The Singapore bourse is also host to the only Myanmar listed firm -- Yoma, a real estate firm with close junta links.
Myanmar, too, has come to the aid of a friend in need. When Indonesia banned sand exports that feed the construction sector, general Than Shwe was quick to offer his sand and granite.
GENERAL HOSPITAL
Singapore also gives the ageing generals access to top hospitals, where security guards shield them from the press.
Senior General Than Shwe, 73, visits Singapore for regular medical checks. Myanmar prime minister General Soe Win, 59, was treated for cancer at Singapore's General Hospital for months before he reportedly died on Oct. 2. Lee says denying them medical treatment would be inhumane.
"I mean, somebody is sick, he wants to come to Singapore, he needs treatment and you're telling me that I shouldn't treat him because he's not a good man?" he told CNN.
Myanmar expert David Steinberg of Georgetown University told Reuters that Singapore could play a big role to end the crisis.
" consults with Singapore leaders," said Steinberg, adding he favoured a "quiet" approach. "I think a strong stand by Singapore will be helpful. But a strong stand has to be a quiet stand. The private advice is absolutely critical."
Lee's father, Singapore's first prime minister and now "Minister Mentor", said in unusually blunt remarks that Myanmar's leaders had pushed a "hungry and impoverished people to revolt".
"These are rather dumb generals when it comes to the economy," Lee, 84, said in an interview, adding a political solution has to include the military who alone have the ability to hold the country together. -
