I picked up the papers today and found that Hongkong is cutting corporate taxes. Its hard to pick that up from alternative media. You may be pissed that Singapore mainstream media dishes out propaganda, it would be unfair to say that they have no value as a source of information. They have much more information to offer than alternative news websites. If we don't embrace every form of media, we become ignorant and naive.kramnave, when it comes to local political issues, the Singapore mainstream propaganda media is worthless.
I flip the papers for news. What sort of news? Entertainment news, than of course yes.
General news, from 1st page to last. Have RSS feed from various agencies also.I mean, even if some articles are PAP propaganda, so what ? I read 1st, if interested then form opinions later. I read the papers for news, not views/reviews.Originally posted by Poh Ah Pak:What sort of news? Entertainment news, than of course yes.
All due to the dearth of competition ...Originally posted by Poh Ah Pak:You want to follow Singapore mainstream media, you must at least be aware of its quality, its standards and its agenda.
Singapore mainstream media from a political point of view is only a propaganda mouthpiece of the state in my view and is thus worthless in my eye as a source of information.

Singapore mainstream propaganda media only focus on certain new items and reports on selected events.
There is for example no coverage of opposition parties activities, no focus on USA and Israeli aggression etc.
You will only get a narrow, biased and distorted presentation of local and world affairs from the Singapore mainstream media.
All media is selective and biased to a certain degree, this is true.
But Singapore mainstream media is much more propagandistic than most in my view.

There is nothing to be gained from the Singapore mainstream media in terms of political knowledge or awareness.[/b]
Where else do you read about news in Singapore ?Sources of news free from government control, restriction or influence is rare in Singapore.
Oh dear, you don't get it do you ? Apart from these opinions and views, i want to read NEWS. These websites do not tell me at this point of time that MAS is allowing the SGD to appreciate, they do not tell me that Siew Kum Hong is going to submit a parliamentary application to repeal 377A, they do not tell me that CITI thinks SGX is overpriced etc. Do you get what i mean ?Originally posted by Poh Ah Pak:Sources of news free from government control, restriction or influence is rare in Singapore.

All political sources of news are technically the same, they serve their own interests. You read mainstream media, you read oppostion views, other alternative views websites, they have different agenda. Mainstream media propagates government's views. Alternative views naturally are alternative. One would do good to read both rather than rely on one. Both misses out on what the other are trying to say.Originally posted by Poh Ah Pak:You want financial news, go read business times.
I'm talking about political news.
I've made it clear in my posts.

i buy ST for its classified, and i read ST while knowing it's the worst newspaper in Sg, and just for reading exercise and not to waste the money. It is quite sad that choice of newspapers in Singapore is so limited.
