Only when you're stung by a swarm of bees or bitten by a scorpion will you be able to understand why NS must be abolished.
NS men should not be subjected to the kind of regimented discipline that we are experiencing. We are not fools.
We are a citizen's army, not a professional army.
If Singapore want thinking soldiers, an egalitarian style army is more suitable. -

Reason - Because my loved ones are in this country. This is the place i was born, grew up and certainly have a sense of belonging.
National Service is a need, reason being, its too taxing to support a Regular Armed forces, it is also essential, that in times of need, every man is able to draw arm and protect this country. To ensure that his loved ones are in safe hands.
You will not feel good, when u see ur brothers/buddies/friends, drawing that rifle and go to war, while u dun even know how 2 trigger that rifle, seeing ur comrades perish, while u cant do anything.
It has nothing to do with the government, willingness to serve the country lies in ur own heart -

Wait, the MPs & their families have booked first class plane & fly to other countries if there is a war. Foreigners and PR that don't need to do NS would have fled before the war happen. Wait, they throw a nuclear bomb, we may not even have a chance to chiong to the frontline. What we going to do?

That guy needs to read up Singapore history and learn what happened more than sixty years ago when we did not have soldiers to guard our lands, and when we had to leave our lives in the hands of untrained soldiers. Stupid bugger.
Nowaday,the need of national service is rather different from the past. We need to deal with terrorists, and also provide humantarian support to other countries.
I think national service also helps to nurture our young men.
