When is Singapore going to the dogs and how ? That is so subjective isn't it ? There isn't compelling evidence anyway.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Wait until Singapore go to the dogs than criticize?Opacity and dishonorable behavior are acceptable to you?

Of course it is subjective, that is why there is a need for a free press so that all views come in and not the subjective views of only dishonorable people are read and considered.Originally posted by kramnave:When is Singapore going to the dogs and how ? Of course we can criticize, i'm not saying we can't.
Maybe..but what if the paper is pro-opposition ? What if journalists articles caters to viewership and prints what they want to hear but not what studies show ?Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:Of course it is subjective, that is why there is a need for a free press so that all views come in and not the subjective views of only dishonorable people are read and considered.
The most ideal case is when all the newspapers are neutral and objective. However in Singapore, none of the mass media is. All are pro-government and PAP.Originally posted by kramnave:Maybe..but what if the paper is pro-opposition ? These things we have to think about and it has happened in papers worldwide.
I think the internet is already a good alternative. Then again we can argue that not everybody wants to use the internet and many would like a print addition.
As you can see in the forums... some views are biased... but the important thing is that, everyone is free to express their views and in the end, it is the best views that are accepted.Originally posted by Spartans:The most ideal case is when all the newspapers are neutral and objective. Even if there is paper which is pro-opposition, it can act as an counter balance (provide alternative views) on the government. Hence, it becomes some sort of checking device on the government.
Can you then explain what SPH was doing with NKF? do you call that pro-government? or are you going to say its another propaganda?Originally posted by Spartans:The most ideal case is when all the newspapers are neutral and objective. Consider the situation now. Some of the government policies did anger majority of ordinary Singaporeans. But do we see any of their frustration and disapproval published in the newspaper? or shown on the TV? No!
Eg is the policy to encourage the elderly to work beyond the retirement age by changing the CPF withdrawal age to 65. The TV shown 3 elderly people: 1 cleaner, 1 hotel door bell boy and 1 Mac cashier showing their ardent support for this policy. ***sort of lame cos implicitly they are saying the elderly are suited only to be cleaner or some other low paying jobs***
In this case, did the mass media publish any disapproval voice? I dun think so.
You can accuse the government of doing anything as long as you can find facts back up what you said.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:As you can see in the forums... some views are biased... but the important thing is that, everyone is free to express their views and in the end, it is the best views that are accepted.
There should not exist a fear of biasness just as there are no such fears in the forums.

There is no such thing as principle where money is concerned, so they just go on and on to suck more and more money from both locals and foreigners. I wonder how much that dishonorable family got from FT. Take public money, take money from FT and shame Singapore... what kind of scurrilous behavior is this? *pui pui pui*
If the figure is kept confidential, will anyone ever know?Originally posted by kramnave:I just want to know how much they lost thats all and its a very very simple question.
MM has no qualms critizing about other countries, I think he should take it in good spirit about the article from FT. Since he loves to talk about other countries, he should be fair to allow other country to talk about his lee family as well. He is just so paranoid. He thinks by letting the media apologise to him and his two despicable family members he is telling the whole world he and his family are not to be bullied, then I think that is unnecessary, as by doing so he is giving more and more bad publicity to himself and his family. There are so many foreigners who say that he practises nepotism and it is LEe dynasty in Singapore, so is he going to tell all these people to apologise to him and he will sue them. I really admire them...
Actually what did they do....how did they do it..?
I really admire them....really....
Nobody else can be so powerful.....wow....FT.....and dunno how many more foreign publications....which are all powerful media groups themselves.....but always end up bowing down and kneeling down....
It is really a sight to behold.....actually what did they do, I dont understand...??!
