Parents irked by school's costume ruling
SEREMBAN: The parents of several non-Muslim students of SMK Datuk Sedia Raja in Rembau are unhappy that their children are required to wear traditional Malay costumes for a school function next month.
One of the parents, G. Rajendran, of Taman Koperasi Chembong in Rembau, said he was shocked to learn that the school had made it compulsory for non-Muslim students participating in the school's certificate presentation ceremony on Nov 5 to wear baju kurung, baju melayu and songkok.
"There are six male and eight female Indian students involved in the ceremony. The reason given by the school is to make the ceremony more uniform."
He said the parents were against the move because the students had their own customs, beliefs and traditional costumes.
"The school needs to be more sensitive in this matter."

Like those malay and indian boys who kena wear cowboy hats during a brass band chinese funeral.So its just another farking uniform

Malaysian malays need to realise that the songkok is NOT an Islamic related but a MALAY CULTURUAL accessory
I guess Chinese & Indian Muslims and Malays that arent Muslims are treated as second class citizens there eh? -

Not compulsory to join Chinese funeral band and wear Cowboi hats. Malays and Indians can opt out to join the funeral band.
But in school.........how?.......compulsory to wear even if you are not Melayu.....where got fair?
Next time Principal say must cut your "kuku chiau" like the Malay boys then how?

A lawyer friend of mine from Penang went to an Islamic University because his family didnt have the money and it was cheaper.He had to abide with all the rules and yes at times he had to wear the sonkok but he is still a chinese and a buddhist and this was something they couldnt & didnt take away from him.So Sonkok is OK -Lah like someone here said it has nothing to do with religion but just something you wear traditionaly.......like if someone make you wear a batik shirt or put a gold orchid on your chest>Originally posted by Dr Who:Not compulsory to join Chinese funeral band and wear Cowboi hats. Taiwan is dragging its feet at the thought of rejoining China cuz they are very afraid to lose their way of life.The thought of rejoining Malaysia is revolting for both people on either side so its not fair to say that Malaysia mau & Singapore tak mau like cats mating season.No need for a senile mad man to come up with this idea of a merger but if you think of it,its good for both countries in the long run .It is just that the two people have grown so far apart that it is not possible for it to happen maybe at least 100 years.
