Since there isn't any announcement that the bill will be lowered, let''s not talk about thing which haven't materialized yet.Originally posted by Ferret:And let's not forget immediate advantages.
No more printing of paper bills.
No more late payment charges.
Why I am in favour is this, since we are gonna be paying for our electricity anyway, earlier or later makes little difference.
But like what has been brought up, paying up earlier in the form of "credits" is a huge bonus to those collecting the $$$.
Which is why I expected to see lower costs for everyone in general.
And the only reason why I am in favour of the scheme.
You are right, last time I took a 10 year loan and the flat was cheap, and now our children have to take 30 year loan and pay and pay, the flat is 100 times more expensiveOriginally posted by AndrewPKYap:they suck your money even before you are born. those born earlier take 10 years to pay for public housing, those born later (money sucked before they are born) take what is it now? 30 years?
Thanks for the info... they hide these type of stats like heavenly secrets....Originally posted by t_a_s:You are right, last time I took a 10 year loan and the flat was cheap, and now our children have to take 30 year loan and pay and pay, the flat is 100 times more expensive

Hear! hear!Originally posted by Atobe:Yes, 'step-by-step' PLUS 'sweet talk' PLUS simple compensations scheme made complicated by implementation procedures will help to make any government policies more palatable.
This has been the hallmark of the MIW government in the switch of Singapore Telecom charges from a fixed monthly flat fee irregardless of call time used and accumulated, to a method that everyone is billed for every call made on a per minute basis.
Singaporean were told that it was fairer to pay for the amount telephone time actually used then paying a monthly lump sum, which actually will tantamount to domestic phone usages subsidising the larger bills payable by businesses.
Singaporeans learnt to late that the flat monthly fee was cheaper, and that domestic use of the phone based on current methods will result in larger monthly bills.
Minister MBT had also boasted that with the ERP system payable through the cash card system it will result in lower and more productive use of the roadways and that overall Road Tax and Import Duties will come down.
Unfortunately, this is another pipe dream promoted by Minister Mah, as ERP became a tool to generate revenue on a per minute basis. The ERP system became more extensive with more ERP gantries being installed to collect from passing motorists heading to work in the morning; as well as during the evening rush hour when traffic is heading home.
The amount of value that is creditted into each Cash Card will range from $10 to $100 - and with a car population that number at least 600,000, the amount being managed by the ERP licenssee is beyond the wildest dream of any government affiliated company.
This Pre-Paid cash card system to pay for Electricity Bill is no different from all the other Pre-Paid Schemes - such as Cash Cards, Transit Link Cards, Hello Cards, Debit Cards, and pre-paid Time Sharing Holiday cards.
With such a track record in all the past scams implemented, can we hope for anything more fair from this Government.
We are a capitalistic country thats all to it...if you want the opposition to take over than get conglomerates to back them financially but then it wouldn't be truly democratic anymore as well. However PAP is already very pro-business...Originally posted by t_a_s:we are democratic communist
Before u go further, lemme re quote.Originally posted by royston_ang:Since there isn't any announcement that the bill will be lowered, let''s not talk about thing which haven't materialized yet.
So to us, the general public, I don't see there any actual benefit from this scheme and the only parties to benefit from this scheme are the electricity vendors.
If a family is living on a tight budget, the existing scheme at least give them some breathing space as they can delay their payment. With this new scheme, your power is immediately cut off if you don't have any money to pay for your electricity bill.
Talking about no printing of paper bills., if this has been the purpose, the biller can just email the bill to us (using service like vpost). So it's obvious this is not the reason.![]()
About the emailing... Not everyone uses the internetOriginally posted by Ferret:......
I am rather in favour of the new scheme where u pre paid the value
But only if the "cheaper" is real.
Like. For example. If we purchase $100 worth of "credit", bonus $20 or something liddat.
And dont make us foot the bill for installation of devices.
And dont make us pay for the "pre paid card"
Thanks.
In what position are you speaking, a spokesman sent by PAP?Originally posted by Gazelle:stop clouding your minds with doubts...pr you will never be able to see the true picture
A government who works for the good and interest of the nation will have no qualms to be as transparent as possible.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:another example of why this government needs a kick in the nuts because they are not interested in providing services (in this case essential services) with a focus on providing service instead of trying to maximize profits.
We should all put our support behind Dr Chee Soon Juan's cause for more transparency in government.
