MM Lee 's talk of re-merging with Malaysia-how wd you do it?

This time round Citizens definitely will want to ask a lot more questions and not be pushed to go to the poll or referendum to vote yes or no with all the propaganda like the way MM Lee got to set up the IR or pass the compulsory annuities for citizens or HOTA and at the end of it we citizens have no choice but just accept the fate of being merged with UNMO Malaysia as MM Lee has done it before.
There should be thorough reviews of all the good and bad, problems and potential troubles with UNMO or Ultra Malays or Muslim who might not be bound for laws even if well passed in parliament.
Let us consider the totality of merger from a larger perspectives:-
Benefits to both countries:
(1) Bigger countries allow intra-regional trades cooperations and specialization to make both countries survive better - this is probably the stand or model behind the EU unions.
(2) Synergy which can be released from the people in both countries can be tremendous - no more holding back by laws in economic activities due to a divided and separated system.
Disadvantages to both countries:
(1) UNMO and PAP each has its own different agendas, racial, social, cultural, political differences to resolve - too many and too complex.
(2) Jobs, economic opportunities may be affected at different levels among different races if the countries unite and change laws to suit the union.
The above-stated disadvantages which are what you have referred to may be beyond the solutions of the ablest leaders or individuals especially if they are to forge an union on hope, slogans without doing their respective in-depth ground work.
If ground works are to be laid, what should they be and how to go about them.
To begin, both countries will have to lay down in details (devil is in the details) a program as EU probably has done before such as:
Phase I
Benefits and disadvantages in totality and details.
Measures to be incorporated into the union and local constitutions of of each country necessary to balance the interests of component races at two level, union and local which gives right of precedence of union matter over the local.
Parliamentary, legislative and executive policies and decision processes to be modeled by each country at the local government level so as to avoid conflicts at the higher union level.
Tax contributions to the union government (Union Parliament)
Union structure and respective boundaries of rights and privileges for both Union parliament and local parliament.
Tax contributions by each country to the Union parliament.
Phase II
Submit all the Phase I recommendations to a parliamentary committee to incorporate them into a the respective local and union constitution.
Phase III
Appoint committees to undertake studies of detailed provisions to ensure all the objectives and measures to overcome different interests at racial, social and cultural levels are fulfilled.
Citizens must be involved to comb through all the provisions to see how the benefits will be brought about and how constraints and problems as listed can be overcome with strategies aimed at "turning adversities into win-win advantages and benefits for all irrespective of race culture or religions.
If any of the detailed provisions are not satisfactorily resolved based on the principles adopted, then leaders of both countries should not proceed to calling of referendum or passing of proposals through parliaments of both countries to avoid the mistakes previously made in the original fated union. -
Why merge with Malaysia when we can have ways and means to lead an integrated ASEAN through politics.

Know something? It is MY that gave independence to SG. Before that, there was limited self-government, then came merger of Straits Settlement, Malaya and north Borneo to form Malaysia for total and full independence from Britain.
That's why we measure ND from 8th August 1965? Not from the day Malaysia was formed. -

Firstly, the Federation of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore was given INDEPENDENCE from British Colonial Rule through a merger into a NEW state called the Federation of Malaysia on 31 August 1963.
Singapore had a SECOND INDEPENDENCE when it was evicted from the Federation of Malaysia after LKY and the PAP made it impossible for the Malays to accept living with Singapore on terms that LKY insist on - when such terms should have been IRONED OUT prior to merger into Malaysia.
How could it be that Malaysia gave Singapore this independence, when independence was already in our hands the first time around from the British ?
If at all, Singapore's supposed SECOND INDEPENDENCE was a break for FREEDOM from the oppressive rule of Malay Ethnic Politics, that insist on their own ethnic dominance over all other ethnic groups in Malaysia.
Singapore's presence in the Malaysian set up - with a large Chinese population - had upset the dominant position of the Malays in fulfilling their ambitions of Malay domination in Malaysian affairs.
Those Singaporeans of who were familiar with the Malay politics of that period had objected to LKY's hurried plans that seem to fulfill his own ambitions, and as can be seen in the Merger Referendum organised and conducted by LKY's MIW Political Party - it was a wilfull attempt at merger without considering the consequences.
We are now bearing the consequences of that hurried effort at merger based on ONE Man's ambitious plans that was purposefully pushed over the views of all other objecting to such an outcome.
Can we continue to depend on the views of just one person for our collective future ? -
Anyway, let us not forget that one cannot read LKY's words literally.

Britain gave independence to the Federation, not Singapore. The Federation was the British idea, and it was the basis and condition for Bristish colonies in Far East! Go read up history instead of magnetism. -

From the publication ''Malaysia-Singapore relations : retrospect and prospect'' authored by K.S. Nathan and published on 1 August 2002 - in the final paragraph of its abstract, the following was mentioned:-
Many political researchers and historians had recorded and recognised that Singapore had received its independence only through merger; and if Singapore did not merge with Malaysia, the British Colonial Government will have probably delayed giving independence to Singapore - as the political thinking current in the early 1960s was that Singapore could not stand on its own, and will be a tempting target for any opportunist to make a quick grab to this abandoned economic gem.
UMNO's role should be viewed in the context of a general nationalist struggle in the 1940s and 1950s towards self-rule and independence, and subsequently for the promotion of Malay racial dignity and economic upliftment.
On the Singapore side, the PAP played an equally critical role in preparing Singaporeans for independence through merger, and later managing the separation from Malaysia without political, economic, and social disintegration of the city-state.
This was the case with Brunei, which remained as a British Protectorate when it declined any merger with Malaysia.
Several records are available simply by entering key words into Google and you will get several historical records - one of which will show LKY writing a memorandum in which he had put forward a case for INDEPENDENCE THROUGH MERGER.
The Encyclopedia Britannica On-line had recorded that even the same terms of ''Independence through merger'' was offered to Sarawak and Sabah - resulting in these two states getting independence earlier then planned.
Now, it will be interesting to know where is the basis and source of your history that resulted in the history being poles apart.
You should be more serious when dealing with history, and any weak effort at even laughing is simply disrespectful to the past events.
How shall we look at the 'pile of crap' that hope to be 'TheGoodEarth' ? -
With more time in hand, and poring through the contents in a reference given in my last post - LKY writing a memorandum in which he had put forward a case for INDEPENDENCE THROUGH MERGER - there are some very interesting information that one can harvest looking back at the historical records in this reference piece.
From this memo prepared by LKY to Tunku, note that LKY had consulted UK Commissioner General (1953-69), Sir Robert Scott, Earl of Selkirk on the independence of Singapore through merger with Malaya, and subsequently including the British Borneo Territories.
This LKY ''meeting with Selkirk'' led to further meetings with Tunku Abdul Rahman and members of his Cabinet - notably Tun Razak and Tun Ismail - to obtain their acceptance; and it led to the Tunku asking LKY to prepare a proposal that will detail the creation of a Federation of Malaysia - combining the territories of Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Brunei, Sabah and Sarawak.
Before LKY's memo was submitted to Tunku Abdul Rahman, LKY ''consulted with Selkirk again'' and had him agree not to inform Tunku about the knowledge of this memo. While Tunku was reviewing LKY's memo, the UK Government was also similarly informed by Selkirk to the details of LKY's memo outlining the merger of the Federation of Malaya, Singapore, and the British Borneo Territories.
From this piece of information, it will seem that Malaysia was the brain child of LKY - and was not the creation of Tunku Abdul Rahman reputed publicly as the Father of Malaysia.
Now we know the deep personal disappointment felt in LKY to the failed merger, and for the tears that flowed during the public announcement.
It was a personal creation that was hijacked by the shrewdness of others who are more wily and adapt at politics - constantly moving behind the scenes and honed in the art of back-stabbing.
Could this be the lingering ache that lead to a continuous hang-up of LKY with the idea of any future merger with Malaysia ?
Is LKY planning a second come-back to take back the brain child that rightfully belong to him ?
Perhaps this time around LKY will listen to more experienced voices that understand the Malay minds, or does he continue to believe that his experience is more then sufficient to cope with the new situation as he had believed in himself being capable in the early 1960s prior to merger and ignored all other opposing voices ?

Your narration confirms my part of history - that Britain granted independence to its former colonies only when a NEW nation called the Federation of Malaysia is formed. Had SG remained in the Federation, would you say that Britain granted independence to Singapore? I think you are good in research but poor in deduction!
