Foreign Talent Policy or is it "Stop the Brain Drain Policy"

This citizen importation policy nicely called "Foreign Talent Policy" appears to be autocrat's answer to brain drain of thousands of own citizens caused by his own lack of motivation of citizens and constant taxing and fee icnreases and the decling economic and job prospect due to economic restructuring and policy failures.
It should properly be called "Stop the Brain Drain Policy" -
please do suggest a something which will stop people from wanting to leave?
there are stacks of things out there the MIW has tried, but are failing.. and have been derided by the people out there, and in here..
but there is this one common theme..
no one seems to have a solution...
we need a solution..
and please try not to taichi this to the MIW? we've already ascertained that they have tried.. which is more than i can say for a lot out there... -
it's a 2 way thingy....todays ST paper abt philippines lamenting it's brains drain of trained nurses to the West. The only advantages the West and Singapore had is the ability to pay them well enough to come over. similarly overseas are paying (both monetary and incentives) Singaporeans well enough to bail out(brains drain) of Singapore.

I beg to differ, thousands may be going out but more than that is coming in. Our population now comprises 30% of foreigners and the government wants to increase our population by a couple of million more. What is coming in is more than what is going out.
Foreign talents are hired prior to coming here. We should not mistake every Singaporean as a talent, else when we send our resumes in, it necessary for the employer to grant us an interview and hire us. That is not the case.
There are also jobs that employers find hard to fill. If you take a look at money section of straits times, banks are trying to woo graduates to take up positions in banking operations and they have no qualms about hiring foreign graduates to do so. Before anybody claims that what the Straits Times reported is pure government proganda to justify hiring foreigners to compete with us, please take a look at adverts in employment agencies and online jobsearch websites. -

sorry i don't get you...our population is roughly over 4m of which 1m are foreigners. These days, 3rd world immigrants are everywhere. They are mostly Chinese, Indians, Indonesians and Filippinos.

As a matter of truth, my family doctor recently migrated completely along with her husband, and many children they have.
They earn a good living but they do not want their children to grow up here. I wonder why? so stresss meh? u know or not? -

How difficult is it to migrate to sg compared to all countries in the world?

One simple solution to attract ex-citizens to come back is political reform.
Don't see this taking place.
Instead they are labeled as quitters...hehe
The govt is not trying to attract them back or discouraging more locals who can leave, from migrating or emigrating.
Look at the immigration policies. Importing foreigners and giving citizenship and free money like the scholarships to attract them at the expense of locals.
And that CPF annuity scheme will cause some more to emigrate. I'm sure the 377A decision will also encourage some talented gays to go. The NS enlistment act also scare some parents and their sons away.
I can't think of any positive policy that will entice ex-citizens to come back. Maybe someone here can help. -

1 thing I can say for sure, 2 good doctors singaporeans left singapore recently for migration to elsewhere bringing along them their many children (cos they so rich can afford many children, yet they chose to leave). This proves that migration is not difficult.
It just takes time to adjust.
I think 3 months is enough to adjust.
another year, will acclimatise.
another year after that, they will call it home.
If so impossible, how does one exprain the thousands of new immigrants living here having no problem.
If foreigners can, I think sg people so super proud of themselves should have no problem as well. -
Others coming here is different form us going there. Even garang guni men and women and dish-washers, public relations officers in Geylang are foreigners. They are everywhere. -
Due to the "open door" policy of the gov, it's quite easy for anyone to come here to get a PR. Beside, there really isn't much different between PR and citizenship here (which is why few want to take up citizenship as compared to PR).
On the other hand, other 1st world countries are much more stringent in their selection process of immigrant.
So we can be sure of the quality of the local talent leaving but not so of those foreign talent coming.

For one thing, by encouraging more FT to come in and dismissing the negative feeling of the local, the gov is encouraging more ppl to leave. Has the gov really look into the pull or push factor forcing local to leave? Is the gov willing to make more changes to encourage ppl to stay?
So what if the MIW has done something if the result is they have all failed? Yet claiming they are the best and deserving the best salaries? It simply mean they have not try hard enough. Period. -
The plan will backfired very soon. They import a lot of foreign to take away everything from you from jobs, money, house (very difficult to apply for house),
when you cry for help, no one will bother you. Let you rot in Singapore.
A lot of HDB has Indian and China Citizens staying. The bus, MRT, shopping centre and other public place are crowded with them and smelling odor. -

Do you ever realize that problems were already bad caused by hypocrisy justifications sydrome and protectionism coined by some journalists at one time and many solutions have been proposed (read more at thread: "Stop Hypocrisy - Solve Problems e.g. rising costs)by the people but ministers paid millions are protecting their own career and not listening.
Like what Ms Bhutto who was surrounded by barb-wires in her home has said to the policemen" "I am fighting for you do you know?"
If you are that policeman what will be your response? -

I don't see that heart anywhere, neither do I see no intentions anywhere.
PM Lee has already admitted part of the brain drain problem is caused by poly grads and understands what caused it.
And that improvement is barely an improvement.
And we ourselves... is that piece of paper with lots of As really an indication of how well someone could perform in reality?
Theory doesn't equate reality, it only works by right. By left, maybe.
Do we have to put a value in everything we do to show that they are "talented" ? -
The folks in Gov already know that foreigner only come in and stay temporary and move on to other countries sg is just a stepping stone. Most of you guys need to "see" beyond the horizon. Look....there is really no stopping of people leaving the country. But Singaporean who left sg will return to visit.
What i do believe is that this open door policy is really not targeted at foreigners at all, but the actual target audience is local Singaporean who have move out to work for some years and had stay out and SG gov want these people back with global experience. "These are the real Talent"
So why not attract these folks to return to SG as foreign talent, after all the emotional attachment is here and loyalty.
Does these make sense to all you folks?
