Not everyone who gave up his Singapore citizenship do so for economic reasons, or at least not his main reason.
There are quite a few forummers here who have either migrated or emigrated.
The likely reason is that they don't like the 'political climate' here. Tell me if I'm wrong. -
surprisingly, political climate is not the reason but the effect of having 1 single party has its impact. we are living in a global world now, and like the old chinese saying; "if the current place doesnt allow me to stay, then there will be some other place for me to stay". i cant speak for other singapore emigrants, but it is a damn good experience to live and work outside singapore.
looking back, my main regret is that i should have done this years ago instead of waiting till this day. for all of you fellas, consider this option too. let no one tell u how dumb/afraid/lousy u are (like Philip Yeo). Go forth and claim your rights to the lives that u want to live! -
The saying "East house no hit, hit West house" is still applicable today.
This is why I keep telling, its prudent and wise to start making backup plans.

The more global minded and mobile foreigners who came here for opportunities have planned for their migration. They know that the new membership can be benefitial to them either monetarily or otherwise.
Can sg people compete with this bunch of resourceful and mobile new immigrants?
As more leaves, more will come in.

I do not see new immigrants would prefer WP which is very much a local flavor. foreigners come here , do you think becos of WP or PAP?

PR plans to go back to their homeland (Malaysia, India, China) or fly to a better place (US, Canada, Australia) when they have a chance... sell their flats, get the cpf, squeeze whatever they can from the stupid government
Citizens plan to migrate to other countries when they have opportunities...

Sure people move out of SG have all reasons. but once they settled down their kids and family and living oversea for more than 10 years, there are possibilities of returning. even individual who leave sg for political reason they would still return as there are family ties and memories. I have met SG who stay out for over 25 years and they still return to SG for the taste......

I don't think those who have surrendered their pink IC will reverse their decision, no matter how much they miss home, unless the oppression and power monopoly is removed.
And those who try to come back when times are not good overseas, well, they are really the quitters. They won't be welcome anywhere. -

If there is friction between one of the countries where many come here to roost, I wonder which country will they side given their sentimental feelings and relatives and all their childhood and adult memories is there?
In a even serious scenario,
if war breaks, which country would they side?
wow, how loyal is loyal?
can sacrifice with their lives ?

I know a 50 year old guy recently got citzengship.
his child and wive left in backhome as they doon like living here.
when talking to expats who came from his same mudderland,
when asked how is sg like, he said he also doon like it.
I thus wonder why he convert.
I got a feel, he will drop and return one day.
