You never know the future. The Indonesians may compromise because of the need to rebuild the economy. The whole Mideast Muslim countries are changing to be more materialistic now and Indonesia may learn from them and want to change from a closed system to a new and open system.Originally posted by kramnave:Its not about Indonesians going overseas to gamble, its more of building a legalised casino in the largest muslim country in the world..Its haram to build one on their land if you get what i mean..it won't stop them from protesting. Yeah..we can't predict the future, not even economists and analysts, they can only talk about probability. Middle east materialistic ? Perhaps but they are not going around building casinos are they ? We have to recall that a huge proportion of indonesians are living in poverty and religion is one of the things that keep them going. You do something that goes against their beliefs, it won't be good. All it takes is for an opposition party to pay 100,000 people to protest and stir feelings across the nation. Anyway, just speculation..we'll see how it goes.Originally posted by robertteh:You never know the future. The Indonesians may compromise because of the need to rebuild the economy. If its Singapore maybe but Indonesia is too big for voters all around to feel the good a casino brings to Bintan. Casino gambling is haram everybody knows that..but not many will be patient or can see the good it brings.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:"Its the economy, stupid", which was the slogan of the Bill Clinton presidential campaign.
Bambang seems smart enough to know that.
If the Bintan economy booms, he will win votes.... even the radicals will vote for him... I think... l
There will be more trouble if FPI(Islamic Defender front) joined in the protest, they will protest using heavy objects. Local cops also afraid of them.Originally posted by kramnave:They didn't need a reason bomb churches during christmas and resorts...anyway thats besides the point. Take it that i was talking rubbish ok. Lets make it simpler for you to comprehend what i was saying.
