You never know the future. The Indonesians may compromise because of the need to rebuild the economy. Yeah..we can't predict the future, not even economists and analysts, they can only talk about probability. Middle east materialistic ? Perhaps but they are not going around building casinos are they ? We have to recall that a huge proportion of indonesians are living in poverty and religion is one of the things that keep them going. You do something that goes against their beliefs, it won't be good. All it takes is for an opposition party to pay 100,000 people to protest and stir feelings across the nation. If its Singapore maybe but Indonesia is too big for voters all around to feel the good a casino brings to Bintan. Even though Susilo may not be able to push forward what he thinks is good for the country, at least the country is truly democratic right ? Ruled by the masses rather than government.
