old senile man should learn when to shut up. He keeps blah blah nonsense he only incurs the wrath of many but reap little or no positive effect.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:someone told me... One day when we all can enjoy our human rights, you will be secretly thanking those that fight and win that right for us.Originally posted by xjxjxj:The west is constantly critical of Asia's domestic affairs when they are having real serious moral problems back in their own soil.
You don't see Asian press condemning the White Australians for stealing lands and cheating the aborigines. You don't see Asian press criticising that US mofo pilot who erroneously unload bombs in neak luong killing hundreds of innocent civilian during the Cambodia's civil war, and subsequently got off with a 700dollars fine!
The list could go on.....
Why can't the westerners learn to mind their own business, and stop creating havoc throughout the world
Huh? What are you talking about.....Originally posted by googoomuck:One day when we all can enjoy our human rights, you will be secretly thanking those that fight and win that right for us.
The same slippery slope argument...Originally posted by xjxjxj:Huh? What are you talking about.....
Are you, as a citizen of Singapore, deprieve of basic human rights like access to education; the right to receive protection from the police; are you able to walk in and out of the house anytime of the day and night without fear of persecution or prosecution??
The western style of democracy will never take flight in Asia. It's way too liberal.
A democracy that's too liberal might just backfire. The higher the democracy level, the more likely a country is going to experience social disobedience
Vandalism on public properties are extremely common in the west. Their citizens simply think that they have the right to everything including spraying grafitti craps on the trains' interior and smashing glass panel with bricks as and when they'd like.
No thanks. I'd never appreciate the kaypohness of western media. I seriously hope that they would just mind their own business, but that's not likely to happen as the news and media business is a big cash cow.
Of course the Asian press would like to condemn this and that sometimes, afterall it's in their interest to do so.Originally posted by LazerLordz:We've not been shy to lecture the West, but we're unable to take criticism.
Let's leave all that talk of comparative development out for a while, and call this pure and simple hypocrisy, because this is what it is.
Singapore has poked her nose in affairs of other nations, telling them how they should run their government, (recently in India), and yet we shy away when criticism is levelled at us.
Mind you, it is not just the Western press. The Asian press have been hard-hitting at times.
This is nothing more than the personal opinion of a politician, and should not be crafted into ruling ideology. He's got his right to say it, we've got our rights to tear his argument apart and find holes as we deem fit.
If you had bothered to read properly, did i connect liberal media with vandalism?Originally posted by LazerLordz:The same slippery slope argument...
What has vandalism got to do with a liberal media? Get a grip on reality and draw stronger lines of connection.
It's getting tiring and shameful to have fellow Singaporeans who think they know it all and always tar other people with the same brush.
You, kind Sir, are doing the same thing that the Western media is doing at times, using a very broad brush to label all things as negative.
Hello, why would privately owned papers print anything else?Originally posted by xjxjxj:Of course the Asian press would like to condemn this and that sometimes, afterall it's in their interest to do so.
What i cannot tahan about the western media is that sometimes the provocative article they print out in their NATIONAL newspaper simply reflects the journalist's assumption and not based on concrete evidence. Don't they think of the conseqeunces before they write?
They like to preach equity, rights for all and all that yada yada cliches but at the end of the day they were the very one who dispossessed native inhabitants of their land, practiced racial segregation, and always unaminously voting against the UN's declaration of aborignal rights.
Until they can solve all these pressing moral issues in their home soil they have no rights to preach fairness, much less interfere.
lol, u like to make assumptions don't you? U'll make a good western journalist! Did i ever say that the singapore model is the best in the world???Originally posted by LazerLordz:Hello, why would privately owned papers print anything else?
Secondly, there's something called Op-Ed pieces. If you take columns as national opinions, then you have yourself to blame.
Don't assume Singapore's model is the best, and that newspapers are voices of national policies.![]()
Graffiti can be an art or vandalism. There are also laws in democratic countries to curb graffiti crimes. SingaporeÂ’s loan sharks pour paints on house doors. ThatÂ’s also a vandalism. I would say itÂ’s not very common in the west. Singapore also has its fair share of heinous crimes. Heard of an Indian murdered and cooked in curry? If the victim were a Chinese, he would probably have had his ears severed and cooked in oyster sauce.Originally posted by xjxjxj:Huh? What are you talking about.....
