I am stating facts that the health of the economy does have an impact on the birthrate of singaporeans. And the economic boom for the last 2 to 3 years has resulted in more Singaporeans wanting to have babies.Originally posted by robertteh:By constantly praising the government on all their proclaimed greatness in leadership success based on some past glories you are not doing yourself or the government a favor nor citizens any favor.
It is the duty of every citizen of whichever party afiliations to have the courage to stand up and criticise the government for any mistakes and shortcomings you at the end will truly benefit.
If you are with the party and lacking the courage to criticize your own MPs let the people do that for you without too much hindrances.
this forum encourage free speech isnt it? just because I disagree with you that doesnt mean I am speaking rubbish.Originally posted by mistyblue:You can keep that kind of talk to bar.
Its not patriotism. Its painfully simple. You miss the point a while mile and a half.
Just as stocks, if you see the stock is not going to benefit you and might make you lose money. You will not buy. Its the same situation here. If people saw a Win-Lose situation where they are the latter, people will not invest in this country if they have the option to choose.
You think Singapore are not worried about kids ending up in similar situations as well? You think singapore do not have drug addicts, rapist, serial killers and more? Perhaps more rampant cause of Asian mentality to hide the shameful things. These things are not just australia's issues. What is not reported in the news does not mean it did not happen.
I can tell you in the old neighbourhood I stay, there are lots of fights and such things but no one even bother to call the news. Its in Singapore if you want to argue about it.
Anyways, I am not free like you to talk rubbish and I know you propably have an easy life with silver spoon. Your policy in reply to anyone here is not constructive debate but to disagree with everything and debase other people opinions to show how superior you are.
But then why is the govt complaining (I use the term loosely) about a declining birth rate? Apparently having them very concerned about it.Originally posted by Gazelle:I am stating facts that the health of the economy does have an impact on the birthrate of singaporeans. Sorry, I am not interest to criticise the government for the sake of doing it nor interested of doing it without proper facts and information.
I am not sheep you know!!

Doh, what I am saying is that why is the govt complaining about the declining birth rate, when you claim that its going up the past few years?Originally posted by Gazelle:a) aging population
b) to ensure we have big enough labour force to support the economic growth and fill the jobs required by all the FDI
c) Singapore only resources is its skilled and educated PEOPLE
sorry...I didnt said is has gone up in the past few years nor am I saying that the government is happy with the current birthrate.Originally posted by Jontst78:Doh, what I am saying is that why is the govt complaining about the declining birth rate, when you claim that its going up the past few years?
unless you are telling us that singapore is importing all the overseas senior citizens?Originally posted by HyperFocal:By importing New Citizens, & aspiring for a population figure of 6.5mil., wouldn't it cause the future Aged Population to swell further??![]()
I have seen many PRCs who converted & pulled in all of their old folks from homeland... and at best, these New Citizens are 30 somethings? Which means, in about 30 years, theyu'd Aged Citizens as well.. no?Originally posted by Gazelle:unless you are telling us that singapore is importing all the overseas senior citizens?![]()
Does more Singaporeans having babies = to more babies being born = increase in births/birth rate?Originally posted by Gazelle:sorry...I didnt said is has gone up in the past few years nor am I saying that the government is happy with the current birthrate.
What I am saying is that the economic boom over the last 2 to 3 years has encourage more singaporeans to have babies this year, which also means that our governmetn ability to grow singapore economy has resulted in more singaporeans having babies.
It has been awhile since the last time Singapore papers talk about birthrate, I think the government or newspaper might be publishing an update soon.Originally posted by Jontst78:Does more Singaporeans having babies = to more babies being born = increase in births/birth rate?
But you cold be right, there could be a very slight increase in singaporean babies being born. But then again I cannot find the data that pits singaporean babies born vs number of singaporeans.

You only like to talk up the rich and talk down the poor, what about the majority middle income earners?Originally posted by t_a_s:In view of the high cost of living, one is afraid to have baby even with government's handout. Economic boom only benefits the rich, and the poor still suffers. The poor has to worry for 3 meals ,
Well, its true right? Even many of the middle income earners are struggling. Mean income level in Singapore is about 4k/mth give or take a little. And about 70% of households live below that level. With the inflation and rising costs of general amenities, I for one am discouraged. The rise in cost of luxury goods is one thing. The rise in transports and basic stuff and taxes, toss in inflation into the mix.Originally posted by Gazelle:You only like to talk up the rich and talk down the poor, what about the majority middle income earners?

The growth in the singapore economy means very little, especially to the lower and middle income groups. Its has been well published over several sources that the lower and middle income groups benefit the least, if any of them benefit at all. While higher income earners reap the most, even in terms of percentage.
Well, as far as I'm concerned, the government only wants people (local or foreign), but has little or no solid solutions for their old age when they become less productive...Originally posted by Gazelle:1) How many is many?
2) How sure are you that their parents are not here for holiday?
3) 30 years is a long time, Singapore is only 62 you know?
Singapore is already building a gas chamber offering a shift and painless jouney to a place where there will be no PAP.Originally posted by HyperFocal:Well, as far as I'm concerned, the government only wants people (local or foreign), but has little or no solid solutions for their old age when they become less productive...
This is yet another confirmation that you are only blindly supporting whtever the government based on their own expediency losing touch with the ground or any rationale.Originally posted by Gazelle:Singapore is already building a gas chamber offering a shift and painless jouney to a place where there will be no PAP.

Ok lah,
I am so disappointed that
I am willing to offer for FREE!!
my humblest of all humble solutions
using the concept that Money can save us all from our problems,
I urge the scholarstics to adopt my free solution:
1. every new born will be offered FREE Education, all the way into any of our local universities as long as they qualify by education results.
I have other solutions based on the mudder of all solutions - Money. So easy. Super super easy until cannot easy. I wonder if my solution is better and more effective.
If my solution works when all else have failed, then I wont even ask to be paid handsomely. To me, community service comes from the heart. Why need to be paid so much to serve my beloved community????
This is not private sector.
