u cant earn billions thru politics. u have to be a multibillionaire and mm lee isnt one. bearing that this plane is a completely private purchase if it were to happen. -

From the current facts, I think the saudi prince is wasting money... I don't think he have a space problem with a normal jumbo jet. Other than fuel comsumption, using A380 restrict the airport he can fly to since its wings r too long

Nope..the A380 has already went to a lot of airports to do ground testing already..it's either the airports are big enough to welcome the A380 without much changes needed or most airports have already modified the infrastructure to accept the A380..an example is Changi Airport, which went through modification work to make it A380-ready..so I would dare say 70 - 80% of today's international airports can accept the A380..so the Saudi prince won't have much problems going to places he want to go..Originally posted by stupidissmart:From the current facts, I think the saudi prince is wasting money... All these middle-east prince/ oil cartel, they are the very reason why oil prices sometimes shoot thru the roof. And they use these"ill-gotten" gains to splurge on themsleves like there's no tommorrow. All these at the expense of consumers like you and me.
I wonder what their countries would be like today if most of the world's oil reserve is not in their continent.

Splurge on themselves yes..but they do splurge on their own country too to make it prosperous..They may have oil and they may be rich..especially Dubai..but do you know their oil reserves won't last any longer? So what is Dubai doing now? They built the Burj Al Arab, building the Burj Dubai, Palm Island, and the World Island now.."For what?!" you may ask..this is for their future..when their oil reserves run out (which is going to be fast), they must complete their tourism attractions so that they can turn themselves into an exotic getaway for rich people..
So don't look at Dubai as if they like to splurge and show off for the sake of splurging and showing off..they didn't build the Burj Al Arab (first 7-star hotel and tallest hotel in the world), Burj Dubai (tallest building in the world when completed), Palm Island and World Island to show off..it is part of their plan to secure their future..
