Singapore is famous for its tourism industry. What else is there to say really?Originally posted by myjoola:It's good to hear that British tourist like our country and would want to come back to visit us again.

After a pleasant couple of days in Thailand we arrived at our staging post to Australia - Singapore. We had heard good things about Singapore, but didn't really expect it to be anything more than clean and smart. Thankfully, we were very wrong!
We were greeted at the impressive airport by the friendliest immigration officials I have ever met. They offered me sweets from a bowl and then once my passport was stamped I was handed a birthday card for my forthcoming birthday! Usually I stand at immigration officials awkwardly trying to look like my passport picture, nervously awaiting clearance, assuming that some admin error will mean I get incarcerated for my holiday duration. In Singapore I had met a new friend and walked through with laughs and smiles!

Wow that is rather rude & insensitive of them to check like that. I mean how much money they carry is definitely non of their business. So if they ain't carrying much money, are they going to get detain?Originally posted by 4getmenot:well, they do seem polite to me when i drop by every now and then...
it all depends on what kind of passports u are carrying sometimes i guess.. not discriminating.. but i've seen china girls or vietnamese girls who were asked to open their bag to show the amount of money they were carrying to make sure they would be self sustainable during their stay and not get involved in some sleezy business..i guess.. but its not a pleasant sight to look at..![]()

me neither...instead i get long hard stares cos i look nothing like my passport photo...Originally posted by jondizzle foshizzle:lol that's bull, I've never been treated special by immigration officers![]()
at one point (at least at a certain airport), guys who looked like they were possibly from the middle east were made to step behind curtains and strip (or at least remove some clothes...).Originally posted by 4getmenot:well, they do seem polite to me when i drop by every now and then...

ya they are like damn frenly to us. and they try to make passin into da country faster.Originally posted by jondizzle foshizzle:I reckon the Australian immigration officers are friendliest, every time I fly in they never fail to at least smile and say "Hi how are ya mate? Where ya from? Alright enjoy your stay"
cos they read your SGF replies and know you anti-gahman one. Why should they be friendly to you?Originally posted by jondizzle foshizzle:lol that's bull, I've never been treated special by immigration officers![]()
then they can never catch people like Timothy McVeigh.Originally posted by udontknowme:at one point (at least at a certain airport), guys who looked like they were possibly from the middle east were made to step behind curtains and strip (or at least remove some clothes...).
I have to agree with you. What the angmoh mentioned was true. I don't know about you guys but I think its the special treatment they tend to get 'more then us' from these people. Ive seen it so many times and experienced it myself. Sometimes I can't stand them, they treat angmohs like gods but their own skin colour like dirt. "ashamed"Originally posted by udontknowme:me neither...instead i get long hard stares cos i look nothing like my passport photo...
dunno. maybe cos i usually take flights and get to singapore around midnight...maybe the officer person is tired too...haha.
actually, i've hardly ever met any really nice friendly officers anywhere...=\ i mean, there are a couple who give you a smile and say hi how are u...but that's really the furthest it goes to 'being nice'.
