Actually Singaporeans are smart.Originally posted by robertteh:Yes, I agree that it is pathetic of our own students keeping silent as onlookers leaving it to others to fight for their own rights and freedoms hoping to stay in good book to land a good job with the power that be upon graduation.
It is just like the many here who are pathetically and shamelessly siding with the power that be to be on the safe side forsaking the suffering caused by suppression to their own fellow citizens just to safeguard their own career or some material gain.
Li Ao is right again - Singaporeans lack the quality to fight for their own political rights.

A group of international students from the National University of Singapore has released a press statement announcing that they will be holding a protest outside Shangri-la Hotel as a mark of solidarity with the Burmese people.
The students will wear red t-shirts and stand in groups of four to remain within Singapore's stringent laws against the freedom of assembly. [b]They represent a larger number of students in Singapore who are concerned about the Burmese situation and Singapore's direct involvement, but are too afraid of reprisals to personally participate.
They also have the support of thousands of students and others worldwide who cannot participate on the day.

Not that it's allowed, just that most Singaporean students won't take a public stand.Originally posted by reddressman:why is protest allowed for foreign students?

On campus, there was enough problems getting our Burmese forums up and running earlier on, though when it was confirmed and good to go, you'd see all the Singaporeans come in huge droves to attend the panel discussion.
I'll say those Singaporeans who are not cultured to think like the majority, and have been well-travelled.Originally posted by reddressman:Are foreigner intellectuals different from locally cultivated intellectuals and

Eh, please if you want to protest, don't disturb the diners at The Line.Originally posted by Quincey:Guess they can claim to be patrons of the line, but that would be a pretty costly protest.
