Many of the Singaporeans like the gahmen PAP are kiasi kiasu so they still vote for the leegime. After election, they complain about the leegime. These are hypocritical and timid people of Singapore. Maybe it's because during last election LHL just become PM and haven't show his "power". It is the Extraneous elements that is the problem. This group will never allow a demonstration to be uneventful.
The organisers of the events have no control over these Extraneous elements.
The event proper is fodder and cover for the agenda of these Extraneous elements.
The Police cannot be absent, and their presence maligned.
The Police is in a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation.
I hope the students will be able to police themselves, keep out the gatecrashers, and keep the demonstration peaceful from start to finish.
The people of Myanmar deserves that.
The Media can yawn, for all I care.
And the radicals must be denied their agenda. -

Activists gathered in front of the Singapore embassy to call on the government of Singapore to take an active lead in international efforts to bring peace to Burma and halt its investments in Burma, when it chairs the ASEAN summit.
A group of human rights advocates and environmentalists called Peace for Burma praised ASEAN for condemning the violent crackdowns on peaceful demonstrations in Burma. They said the condemnation was meaningful to the recognition of Aung San Su Kyi's role in entering into dialogue with the Burmese junta, and it was laudable that the ASEAN countries lent support to the UN special envoy Ibrahim Gambari in his mission to Burma.
However, Peace for Burma believes that ASEAN must make more concrete efforts; particularly it should consider imposing economic sanctions, freezing bank accounts and transactions, and banning business deals with the Burmese junta and its supporters.
While world community is calling on China and India to take constructive roles in solving the crisis in Burma, ASEAN should in no way think that it holds no responsibility as it has much to gain from trades and investments in Burma, the group said. According to a publication of Alternative ASEAN for Burma (ALTSEAN), trade between ASEAN and Burma accounts for over half of the latter's income from international trade. Therefore, ASEAN has leverage in negotiating with the junta.
Moreover, Singaporean banks hold money for Burmese agencies which do not work in favour of the Burmese people, and other ASEAN countries continue to lend economic support that help reinforce military rule, such as Thailand's natural gas purchases that earn the junta US$160 million a month.
The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus has insisted that the proposed economic sanction would not affect the Burmese people, but would send a strong signal to the junta to make them realize what would happen if it continues to avoid reconciliation in the country and genuine political dialogue.
The activists said Singapore had frozen North Korea's bank accounts, so it could do the same with Burma. And the government of Singapore is also urged to refrain from further commitments in trade and investment in Burma, and support the dialogue in the UN Security Council to stop arms trading.
In light of the upcoming endorsement of the ASEAN Charter, Peace for Burma urged the bloc to use this occasion to show the world its intent to uphold human rights and security in the region by imposing serious economic sanctions; otherwise the ASEAN would lose all credibility.
Among the protesters, 10 members wore masks showing the faces of the 10 ASEAN leaders including Burma's Gen Tan Shwe. They put on a performance, with nine ‘leaders' giving money to Tan Shwe to represent ASEAN investments which only benefit the junta. And all 10 leaders finally stood in line, hand in hand, like the pose in ASEAN meetings.
Adam Cooper of Peace for Burma presented the group's open letter to the Singapore government through a representative from the embassy. -

Then let Gambari present to our Parliament then. Burma must not be allowed to get away with this. If they won't reform, then ASEAN has to drag them along. -
Sunk Gila hotel is designated as a protected area, to cordon off security threat to the delegates. Can I ask are the NUS students pose a safety threat to the ASEAN delegates ? They dont carry arms, or bullets, why are they so worry about security ?

50 Burmese nationals gathered outside Orchard Hotel in groups of three. Standing back to back, they formed a line that snaked across the frontage of the Hotel. One group carried a banner that said: “Listen to Burma’s desire, don’t follow junta’s orders”.
We want to meet Gambari
Mr Marc Myo, one of the protest organizers and a student at Singapore Management University, told the assembled reporters that the Burmese community would like to meet with UN Special envoy Ibrahim Gambari. Mr Gambari will soon be in Singapore to meet with Asean leaders.
He said this show of force was to put pressure on Asean and Burma to effect the immediate release of jailed opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Speaking to TOC via a phone interview, he said: ‘Asean has taken no responsibility or action to solve the problem in Burma. We want them to push for the release of our national leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’.
The gathering dispersed without incident after they were warned by police officers that they could be in violation of the law.
Police attempt to detain local activist, unsuccessfully
Mr Isrizal, a local activist with SG Human Rights was at the scene observing the gathering. When the group of Burmese dispersed, he was approached by a group of six police who asked him for his identification and why he was there.
Mr Isrizal then told them they had no business to question him as he had not committed any offence. He then walked off. The police officers attempted to hold him back but he brushed them off. After tailing him for about 15 metres they gave up.
The incident was witnessed by two other members of SG Human Rights.
Mr Isrizal was part of a group of local activists who walked to the police road block at The Adelphi earlier this afternoon.

A group of 20 Burmese nationals are now gathering at Orchard Parade Hotel in anticipation of a demonstration that expected to happen at around 1930 hrs.
Organizers of the protest have not released details of what they are planning.
Six Special Operations riot vans were spotted coming out of Orange Grove Road 30 minutes ago, moving towards Orchard Road Proper.
Plainclothes police are lightly dispersed around the venue, with two on the second floor of Orchard Hotel and two on the street outside the Starbucks cafe. They were identified by members of the gathering who have seen the policemen before. Observers at the venue described the atmospher as extremely tense.
Police have made clear that the Shangri-La is one of four protected areas within which they have the power to stop, search or detain at will.
Earlier in the day, a group of four civil society activists including former WorkerÂ’s Party candidate Chia Ti Lik attempted to present a petition to the Asean heads of state. They were allowed to walk from Orchard MRT to Orchard Parade Hotel, but were stopped by police outside The Adelphi. A member of the Asean secretariat came to receive their petition.
TodayÂ’s protests follow an attempt by nine international students to reach the Shangri-La.

Assuming their formation is like this -> 16 x 3 + 2 = 50.
This is better than -> 12 x 4 + 2 = 50.
Because if any of the 2 (presumably leaders) stray too close to a group, that group will be arrested!
