bill gates.
schoolar are good at study. That is all I can say.
business is about real time real world non-clinical environment multi-skilled profession.
schoolars are studious and I would say good at clinically controlled environments. Either right or wrong, pass or fail. 100% or 90%.
In real world, you deal with uncertainties, real people - evil , cunning, back stabbing, cheaters , liars, sabotagers, cost cutting, under the table, yenjiu yenjiu, kuanxi.
MBA, what does it have to offer :
1. How to deal with this tricky office politics?
2. How to win the trust?
3. How to secure that contract and beat the competition?
4. How to boost employee morale?
5. How to innovate new ideas and not be one of the herd?
6. How to not just blindly follow the blind?
7. How to challenge conventional wisdom?
8. How to meet the deadline for tender proposals ?
9. How handle impossible missions and challenges and remain calm?
Schoolars. Study some more. How many points do you score on these?

To be a technopreneur, you must be smart. Bill Gates is smart; for him to pursue that piece of paper is a piece of cake.Originally posted by reddressman:die die must be schoolar or not?

I am not gonna dispute you on that.Originally posted by Icemoon:To be a technopreneur, you must be smart. Bill Gates is smart; for him to pursue that piece of paper is a piece of cake.
Scholars need not be studious and inflexible. In fact, the skills you use in school can also be used in the real world. Because schools are more stringent, the more you have to think if you want to cheat the system, smoke your lecturers who are way smarter than you.
Look at CSJ - the no.1 risk taker in Singapore. He is a doctorate right?
'cos classroom teachings teach different things mah. cannot compare.Originally posted by reddressman:the message I have is, classroom teachings cannot teach life skills like how to handle uncertainties and stress and etc etc. Like, what steps to follow to become successful ?
I will not dispute with what you said because you have a point.Originally posted by Icemoon:'cos classroom teachings teach different things mah. cannot compare.
but then who says school doesn't teach uncertainties and stress? just that when there is uncertainty, students complain. like if server goes down during module bidding, students kaopeh. the school could have said "don't wait till last minute to do your stuff", but students will say they pay school fees liao cannot like that.
about stress, dont need to say lah. School is stressful. but when you have parents complaining PSLE too hard for their kids, what to do?
one thing good about school is it is an environment for failing. the school can fail you once, but you have a second chance to succeed. but if you cant be bothered and *surrender*, as a result still fail subsequently, who is to blame?
