COULD THIS BE THE AMX-13 LIGHT TANK REPLACEMENT? -

These Spike mounted M113 shouldn't come as a surprised or as some top secret thingy. They are just going to improve the anti-tank capability for each amoured battle group (I think probably at company or battalion level) given our neighours are acquiring MBT capabilities. We need, in immediate term, stronger anti-tank capabilities (in ther form of Apaches, Tow-armed Fennecs and Spikes armed vehicles) until SAF receives its 105mm armed light tank and possibly the replacement for the Centurions.
SAF should also, IMHO, look into fielding short range Spike to complement or replace the Armbrust, and the non-line of sight anti-armour weapons, such as EFOGM, BONUS top attack artillery rounds, 81mm Merlin Mortar rounds, and guided 120mm mortar rounds like the SAAB/Bofors Strix. -
can you tell us what exactly you saw? can it be more descriptive? it could also be Igla launchers that you saw.
TOW armed fennecs are being taken apart for storage, rsaf will only have one type of anti tank helicopter once apaches are in. -

You maybe right? It is probably a quad launcher for the Igla Missile.
The thingy went by pretty fast. I almost missed it. There doesn't seem to be a turret....just two rather long launch rails.

Unfortunately Dsta and the navy decided to keep the outcome classified.still we have reason to believe that the leading Naval Helicopter most probably could be NH90 maritime naval Helicopter.Its future and current naval equipment has generally shifting towards the EU nations such ltaly , france , UK and Sweden.Originally posted by buzz:Oops!

US for some reason is mainly because of its strict arm export rule and regulation doesnt allow certain requested sophisticated defense system to be sold to singapore.Even being approved its either a downgrade version or store in US ex:Amraam. -
Are you sure? Why take them apart since they are such good recon platforms. The HeliTow armed Fennecs have never been intended as the "anti-tank" helo for SAF. It was more of a stop gap until RSAF could obtain the attack chopper that we want. -
yes they are being taken apart, maybe becos they dun have enough manpower to start a new squadron and train pilots for another attack copter. logistics will be stretched too. even the training fennecs will be commercialised like the rest of flying training school.Originally posted by Joe Black:Are you sure? the fennecs were meant for the saf to learn how to integrate attack choppers with armour units. the apache M1 combination was proven in the gulf war and instead of going out to buy a attack version. the rsaf stick to the fennec which can also be used for training and have anti-tank capability for pilots to familiarise with. the learning curve is less steep and very soon after its delivery. fennecs were in australia with armour for ex wallabe.
most of the apache pple now in us came from fennec too. maybe that's why attach fennec is shutting down but they are being stored not sold. so there may be a day when attack fennecs may fly again -

Australian defence reporter(magazine) wrote that 167 units are to be converted to MICV role.
I guess its true then.
