I hear some Condos plan to impose additional fees on families who have 2nd and 3rd cars their developments. Many condo developers and HDB developed their carparks based expected car ownerships in the development. The liberal LTA policy resulted in huge increase car population and contraints in limited carpark lots. Families now can have 2 or 3 cars since they have become more affordable.
It becomes heated when families pitched for more carpark lots. For HDB dwellers, the government with ample funding simply build more montrous looking multi-storey carparks to accomodate the car owners. For condos, it has become a serious issue. Who should bear the costs? There are some non-car owners in the condos, who ain't eager to bear such costs.
Parking is already an issue in the city, where carpark lots are limited. When we eat out these days, we probably spent more time looking for carpark space than eating the dinner meal itself. Some families are reluctant to eat out these days if they are required to drive.
This is new problem that Singaporeans seldom witness in the past. It's a new problem and it's not going to be cheap.
