They can suggest to the companies that they maintain the price at $100 instead of any company reducing their price to $50, the shareholders of all 3 companies will agree because they still maintain the market share (which is static), but charge a higher price so that they can get more profits.

Here very clearly it stated that the area of incident is a protected area.
‘’As part of the security measures for the ASEAN summit, Police have gazetted the premises of Shangri-la, Raffles City Convention Center (RCCC), and Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM), as well as 500 metres of the perimeter surrounding these places and the Istana, as Protected Areas under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act. This is similar to arrangements made at the recent APEC Australia 2007, and at the WTO in Hong Kong 2005. Such a security zone would allow police to conduct checks on persons found within the zone, and order persons found therein to leave the security zone if they pose a security threat to the ASEAN Summit.
The security zone will be in place on the following dates and times:

It is also very clear under the act that any person in the area shall comply with the direction of the authorised officer. The above act doesnt make it illegal for the police to be selective in their regulation.

However, recently I has being pondering if democracy is achieved at the expense of other vital stuffs, such as economy, social order, etc, is it still desirable?

There must be a balance between democracy, political stability, security and economic development.
Democratic style of rule requires training.
If the people of a country are not trained for democractic style of rule, political instability may result.
Singapore has economic development and political stability for the past 50 odd years due to a tightly controlled ruling system run by the PAP ruling clique combined with successful economic strategies.
DPRK also has a tightly controlled system, but no successful economic plans.
I think that Singapore has reached a level of development in technology, economy, education and employment where it is time to undergo democratic reforms to relax the political control.
In the past, when Singapore was at a low level of development, dictatorial rule and lack of democracy can be justified in some sense so as to provide political stability for implementation of economic plans.
Now, Singapore which is at a high level of development, such autocratic rule cannot be justified and indeed such rule tends to weaken the economic system in some form.
Once Lee Kuan Yew goes, more and more pressure must be applied on the PAP regime to change their autocratic form of rule. -

I can't deny that SDP had some ulterior intent, but the handling of the issue by Michael Tan was totally uncalled for, because Ms. Chee and Mr. John Tan was clearly not a threat to anybody.

it is a lawful detention (as in detaining is lawful) because the officers have the power to regulate the movement of people within the protected area (one notch above protected places) under the protected area act. failure to comply with the officer under that act is an offence.Originally posted by Where Is God:My bad.
