Am I out of my mind to compare Singapore with USA ?
Or is your mind too small that you cannot imagine this little red dot of four ethnic groups cannot practise democracy, when the gorrilla sized USA has been able to practise open and transparent democratic processes - even when the USA has more then a dozen over ethnic groups that make themselves less homogeneous, and with a population size that is 20 times larger then Singapore, and a bigger land mass to compare with ?
Are you mixing religions and races with politics?Originally posted by Daddy!!:USA only celebrates Thanksgiving, Christmas day, all Christian as national holiday. What about Chinese new year and Deepavali. USA is very diverse hor.

From spf.gov.sgHere very clearly it stated that the area of incident is a protected area.
‘’As part of the security measures for the ASEAN summit, Police have gazetted the premises of Shangri-la, Raffles City Convention Center (RCCC), and Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM), as well as 500 metres of the perimeter surrounding these places and the Istana, as Protected Areas under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act. This is similar to arrangements made at the recent APEC Australia 2007, and at the WTO in Hong Kong 2005. Such a security zone would allow police to conduct checks on persons found within the zone, and order persons found therein to leave the security zone if they pose a security threat to the ASEAN Summit.
The security zone will be in place on the following dates and times:
Venue Date/ Time
Shangri-la Hotel 17 Nov 2300 hrs - 22 Nov 2359 hrs
RCCC 20 Nov 0500 hrs – 2359 hrs
Istana 21 Nov 1500 hrs – 2359 hrs
ACM 21 Nov 1400 hrs – 2100 hrs
Singapore River 21 Nov 1800 hrs – 2030hrs
Members of public are advised to keep away from the security zones unless they have a legitimate reason to be there. Members of the public can expect to be stopped and checked by security forces if they are entering the security zone. Persons found engaging in activities which may compromise security within the security zones will be arrested and removed.
Police are aware of web postings stating that it is not against the law to gather in groups of four or less and encouraging people to do so during the ASEAN Summit period. Police would like to advise members of the public not to participate in such illegal activities.
Members of the public who choose to give expression to their political views or who wish to organize political activities are urged to do so through available avenues and lawful means. Indoor political forums by Singaporeans are exempt from the need to apply for any licence. Foreigners who wish to do so can apply for a licence from any Police station or on-line at www.spf.gov.sg/licence/index.html. ‘’
PROTECTED AREAS AND PROTECTED PLACES ACTIt is also very clear under the act that any person in the area shall comply with the direction of the authorised officer. The above act doesnt make it illegal for the police to be selective in their regulation.
(CHAPTER 256)
2) Any person who is in any protected area shall comply with such directions for regulating his movement and conduct as may be given by an authorised officer, and an authorised officer maysearch any person entering, or seeking to enter, or being in, a protected area, and may detain any such person for the purpose of searching him.

The Penal Code didn't specify that walking along Orchard Road was an offence. Maybe they should have more grey areas, like the gathering of more than 5 persons is an illegal gathering

As you have said yourself, "TO GAIN SUPPORT FROM THE MASSES, ONE MUST SPEAK WHAT THE MASSES WANT TO HEAR. " How then are you "speaking" what the mass wants to hear? The masses certainly does not want your unnecessary accentuation in your fonts. Does that mean that you are not fit to support PAP then?
As for "WE, ASIANS DONT LIKE OTHERS, ESPECIALLY ANGMOHS TO TELL US WHAT TO DO OR MEDDLE WITH OUR POLITICS NO MATTER HOW WE HATE OUR GOVT. ", did you grab it out from your ass? Where's the statistics? Where's the source?
Same goes for a lot of the points you have made. Many of them are without basis, full of logical fallacies and spoken with little thoughts. And you were questioning Chee's credibility?
Your words have, more than enough, shown how little we should place your views and opinions. You may have valuable things to say, but until you can behave maturely, I don't think you are too welcome here.

I can't deny that SDP had some ulterior intent, but the handling of the issue by Michael Tan was totally uncalled for, because Ms. Chee and Mr. John Tan was clearly not a threat to anybody.
The police has no criminal charges against them, yet they decided to kidnap the both of them.
[b]Under the Kidnapping Act (Chapter 151)
Abduction, wrongful restraint or wrongful confinement for ransom
3. Whoever, with intent to hold any person for ransom, abducts or wrongfully restrains or wrongfully confines that person shall be guilty of an offence and shall be punished on conviction with death or imprisonment for life and shall, if he is not sentenced to death, also be liable to caning.
But I guess the police are above the law, afterall we are a police state.

Heeheheheheeee... you gotta be kidding!Originally posted by t_a_s:Can the duo sue the government or police for kidnapping since they are not a threat to the state
the police has the right to regulate the movement of people within a protected area even if their regulation is selective. i do not see why the actions of the police constitute kidnapping as those actions are sanctioned by the law.Originally posted by t_a_s:Can the duo sue the government or police for kidnapping since they are not a threat to the state

Yes, evidence are important especially when you are drawing a conclusion about the masses. If you cannot provide evidence, it merely shows that you have drawn a conclusion out of thin air. How can we have a proper discussion if everything is based on baseless facts?

Note that the law applies to "Any person who is in any protected area".Originally posted by foxtrout8:The police has the responsibility to pre-empt crimes, so why is it illegal or wrong for the police to regulate the movement of people in a protected area with criminal records especially one with a colourful portfolio of demostration?
if the police ferry a detained person from pasir panjang terminal (protected area) to the police station at bukit merah (outside the protected area), is it kidnap?Originally posted by Where Is God:Note that the law applies to "Any person who is in any protected area".
Yes, the police can regulate chee's movement in the protected area, but do they have a right to ferry him back to her HQ? The road back to her HQ is clearly outside of this designated protected area. Hence, once the van is out of the protected area, it is kidnap.
My bad. I meant to say unlawful detainment, not kidnap.Originally posted by foxtrout8:if the police ferry a detained person from pasir panjang terminal (protected area) to the police station at bukit merah (outside the protected area), is it kidnap?
for what reason they want to ferry them back to their HQ is something we can onli speculate, but the action doesnt constitute as kidnap.
it is a lawful detention (as in detaining is lawful) because the officers have the power to regulate the movement of people within the protected area (one notch above protected places) under the protected area act. failure to comply with the officer under that act is an offence.Originally posted by Where Is God:My bad.
