a competitive society. What does this mean for an individual?
It means in universal terms that when in a competitive society, u can expect a reward that will make u better off than not being competitive
When there is not a reward, it is are better off being not competitive not to waste the time, energy and effort.Agree?
So but over here, u are being competitive to merely survive and make ends meet?
It means that its not a competitive society but a stressful society.

I think BoxHiller is saying that competition should be multiple individuals with their basic needs covered competing for access to greater success. Singapore's competition isn't that way, though. Success means "normal life" with basic needs met, and failure means something worse than that, like welfare bum or similar shame. "Normal" shouldn't be shameful, and the great successes shouldn't achieve only a normal life. A society which works that way is not healthy or strong, it is stressful and strained.
