You buy a hyundai for 70k ( I am using Singapore's system , not Australia's) - you don't expect it to last more than 10 years since you have to scrap it . It is a depreciating asset loss
You buy a collectable limited edition lambourghini for one million dollars - you incur EXPENSIVE maintenance costs. HOWEVER IT BETTER DAMN WELL BE WORTH IT , RUN FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS ,AND INCREASE DRASTICALLY IN VALUE WHEN IT HITS THE VINTAGE OR COLLECTABLE MARKET. THAT WAY WHEN YOU MAKE A PROFIT. It becomes a precious heirloom that only a few will have.
Likewise the same can be said for ministers. Right now , you just need to see whether the ministers are making a gain for SINGAPOREANS like a limited edition lambourghini for its owner , OR a loss like a hyundai that is due for scrapping in 10 years. If it is a hyundai, scrap it and buy a new hyundai that runs well for a few years or a new brand. -

It's fun to have selective memory isn't it? When the investments start to lose money, it's fun to forget that you folks requested, nay, demanded that CPF interest rates be increased when temasek made money.
Can't burn the candle on both ends buddy. The CPF interest rates stayed the same back then just so it doesn't have to go down just because investments went south.
In other words, put a lid on it. Everyone loses money from time to time. That's what an investment is. -

In this case, the then director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s (MAS) economics department, Tharman Shamugaratnam, was charged with compromising the secrecy of a piece of information – specifically, the official flash estimates of Singapore’s economic growth in the second quarter of 1992. This information was communicated to Bhaskaran, an economist from a broking firm, who had then told it to, among others, the Business Times senior correspondent Kenneth James.
From James, the flash estimate was e-mailed to several Business Times colleagues, including the Business Times editor, Patrick Daniel. An article in the Business Times then communicated this figure before it was officially released. Daniel was charged with communicating the information to "unauthorised persons, namely, the readers of the Business Times".
