There was this thread in the Chit chat forum about someone wanting to do a part time degree. Now, a greater question has come into my mind and i thought i would open a new thread about it here (speaker's corner seems to attract more mature responses).
Can anybody here tell me, is there any kind of discrimination by the employers between those with full time and part time engineering degrees? Maybe someone from HR dept or maybe even prospective interviewers/employers here can shed some light on this issue...........
As far as i know part time degrees offered by the local unis NUS (Btech) & NTU (BEng) are accredited by the PE board Singapore as well as IEEE board. But employers might have their own preferences, prejudices etc
IF YOU HAVE TIME AND MONEY FOR A FULL TIME DEGREE, GO FOR IT. BEGGAR THINK IT IS WORTH THE WHILE PERSUING A FULL-TIME DEGREE.
NO POINT GETTING A PART-TIME DEGREE WHICH SOME EMPLOYERS STILL
VIEW AS 2ND CLASS.
If you can get degree by the part time way, it is still okay. work a few years and gather the experience, and migrate out of Singapore for greener pasture where there is no discrimination there.
