hello,Originally posted by Seven_Dragon:you find less citizens in private sectors but some citizens are employed in air force, army, navy, police, DSA, government minister office, CIDs, EDB, some government office etc... ya... taxi drivers too.... all these comprised mainly of citizens...
so employment rate of citizens are not that low if you include government sector... if you exclude government sector, employment rate of citizens will be low in private sector...
employment or unemployment?Originally posted by HyuugaNeji:20 percent
The MOM was smart to show such a muddled figure to dilute the actual unemployment rate of citizens because PM Lee has earlier on back in 2004 or thereabout told him to buck up on creating jobs as he would be judged on this performance.Originally posted by Seven_Dragon:you find less citizens in private sectors but some citizens are employed in air force, army, navy, police, DSA, government minister office, CIDs, EDB, some government office etc... ya... taxi drivers too.... all these comprised mainly of citizens...

Wonder what would the effect on voting if all singaporeans rely on gubbermental ricebowl?Originally posted by Daddy!!:...
over time and in the future, singapore might develop into a situation that (a) the public sector and GLC remain the largest and getting larger, (b) the public sector and GLC pay a general level of salary which is higher than that in the private sector. Another impetus to develop a unique unified Singaporean identity? The main hurdle to this is that children nowadays are too easily distracted from their studies and unwilling to work hard.
the above is a bit of my opinion.
Correction: Singapore civil service does consider non-Singaporean citizens unless the job consists of security sensitive issues. It is stated clearly in their recruiting website.Originally posted by reddressman:hello,
The number of citizens relying on the public sector for rice bowl appears to me to be staggering in terms of the proportion of all jobs available ( both Private and Public sector).
It is heard that the public sector is the largest employer.
For such a tiny little city, not to mention country,
I would think more jobs need to be created in the PRIVATE SECTOR .
One thing good about Public sector job is that less , not NO PRs, can compete with you for some types of the jobs. But lets not be ignorant. In Public Sector, Projects are given to private sector implementors who generally provide foreign workers and PRs. Thus, jobs created in the Public sector are also taken up by non citizens substantially.
For a tiny little city, a dot, it should not be difficult to create enough private sector jobs COMPARED to truely large economies / cities / countries.
Just imagine, for only a tiny dot, if structural unemployment and general unemployment cannot be solved, what hope is there if the dot expands to a bigger dot in terms of population expansion?
I admire the job numbers created by large countries. They can produce so many jobs.
Having pay hiked, I think its only appropriate to demand for more progress in this aspect, don ya think?
When too many rely on public sector for ricebowl, I see a problem which I cannot say for self preservatory reasonsWill citizens be scared of loosing the public sector jobs if they have to go into the private sector and face all the storms?
Minus away the jobs from the public sector, what is the jobs created in private sector? oh my goodness.
The public/civil service also allows foreigners aka non-Singaporeans to work in non security sensitive jobs.Originally posted by Daddy!!:well, you were complaining that the government did not take care of its citizens. Now it is proven that you are wrong. It takes care of its citizens through employment in the public plus GLC and higher salaries there.
yah lor .. got pple say a lot of PRC chinese teachers .. so obviously civil service can employ non Singapaporeans.Originally posted by fymk:The public/civil service also allows foreigners aka non-Singaporeans to work in non security sensitive jobs.
We are not talking about the teaching profession per say. It is allowed even in the ministerial department that they allow foreigners as long as it is not security sensitive.Originally posted by Icemoon:yah lor .. got pple say a lot of PRC chinese teachers .. so obviously civil service can employ non Singapaporeans.

Those citizens who were retrenched but still could not find jobs beyond a certain period were no longer included as unemployed so were not counted in the percentage of unemployed as well by just a slant of the statistics. That is why there is a common saying - statistics can tell lies.
So to survive in the ministerial job he has to be creative.
