Please put your brain to good use, improve your English and gather all the right facts before you talk nuisance here. I corrupted, corruptible? Don't jump into conclusion when you don't know me. ren2 xin1 nan2 ce4. Even leaders with some calibre like Thaksin and Ma Ying Jiu are also corruptible.
even if you are born a peasant with both feets on the ground, with the lure of power and money, you are also corruptible.
Somehow, I just like this statementOriginally posted by qlqq9:LEE KUAN YEW is the great first world leader to say that pay the ministers high salary to prevent corruption. To many of us, this is a new form of corruption.
Then all the ministers are corrupted lah because they all need to be paid highest salary in this world to be viewed as uncorrupted.Originally posted by Icemoon:He is just being pragmatic.

Actually I think the main concern is corruption by revealing top secrets to foreign powers.Originally posted by mistyblue:Then all the ministers are corrupted lah because they all need to be paid highest salary in this world to be viewed as uncorrupted.

well if he is not getting paid ... it will matterOriginally posted by the Bear:let's put this into perspective:
does it matter at all?
This seem to be not the legal definition of corruption .. haha.Originally posted by mistyblue:Then all the ministers are corrupted lah because they all need to be paid highest salary in this world to be viewed as uncorrupted.
I thought he was well-loved last time. He represented the union workers siah, those were the days ..Originally posted by LazerLordz:As far as I'm concerned, he lost the chance to be a well-loved statesman.
Statesman yes. Well loved, nah.
As in his legacy..Originally posted by Icemoon:I thought he was well-loved last time. He represented the union workers siah, those were the days ..
what is the justification to increase their salary 60% just the beginning of this year and then another 21% next year. Is there super performance on their part? The other world leaders who really did great then should ask for 200% increases in their salaries ... The problem is when there is screw ups, these ministers are never penalised. There is also no objective performance measure and the world is on an upswing in the economy therefore the better performance is not 100% attributed to the performance of our ministers which as usually they will claim it so.Originally posted by Icemoon:This seem to be not the legal definition of corruption .. haha.
I think it is pointless to debate whether the ministers are corrupted or not. So what if you are not corrupted now? By your definition, those ministers paid a low salary are not corrupted?
But I guess the real problem is not about the high salary per se, but whether they deserve it. If our government is really really good, like traffic jams disappear overnight, do you think they deserve the highest salary in the world then?
None of us knows what happen those days and his motive. He's first and foremost a politician.Originally posted by Icemoon:I thought he was well-loved last time. He represented the union workers siah, those were the days ..
He is digging his own grave, that is all I can say. He has lost the respect of many.Originally posted by LazerLordz:As far as I'm concerned, he lost the chance to be a well-loved statesman.

Hey, what is wrong to work as maids?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:By this question, it is clear the TS is barking up the wrong tree. Who cares if LKY is a great first-world leader? He might...his wife might...his family might.
For the vast majority of Singaporeans, the question is whether he has successfully lifted thousands of Singaporeans from poverty. Do we employ Filipino maids or do our wives work as maids in the Philippines? Do we live in modern flats with safe running water or in attap houses and defecate into the same river where our children are bathing?

Nothing wrong.Originally posted by qlqq9:Hey, what is wrong to work as maids?
That's right. The bottom line is they do not deserve it, or at least we feel they do not deserve it.Originally posted by mistyblue:Yes it is pointless but its is a matter of concern when we are their paymasters and yet these ministers had always gone ahead with their decisions regardless of the voice on the ground.
But it is not through his effort alone .. right?Originally posted by oxford mushroom:For the vast majority of Singaporeans, the question is whether he has successfully lifted thousands of Singaporeans from poverty.
