I dont think there is any issue of Singaporeans finding a job here in Singapore, the only problem I see is that Singaporeans are complaining that they are under paid for their skills and "talent" because of FT. And having a degree should at least put you on a level playing field with a FT when landing a job. Some might even disagree with that, as there are those who feel that the playing field should be tilted in the favour of the citizen. e.g. giving incentives for hiring locals instead of FTs. Hire FTs only if you cannot find locals to take the job.
To borrow the some word of a PAP MP, FTs should be a supplement, not an easy first choice for employers. As far as I know, there is no levy for FT who earn more than 2.5k a month. Coupled with no reservists(for males), no CPF to pay. Hell, its a bloody attractive hire for any employer
edit: And you say like the civil service is like a dumping ground for Pte sector rejects. How does a Poly grad at 30yrs join the army? Or even a 'O' level holder for that matter? Do remember that degree holders are far from being the majority among the resident workforce. -

a buddy failed to get promoted despite good appraisal, only to have a prc hired as his superior...why? because the prc, despite higher in rank, cost less....an experienced indian accountant hired for $1.8k, fresh local grad won't even go for it....choosy? nope, it's unrealistic.....
so open your eyes big big before claiming locals cannot compete in terms of talent, they can but they expect reasonable pay and not exorbitant wages. there is certainly a growing unrest.....
as for joining the army, didn't the papers report a prc labourer's son got saf scholarship to read at an ivy league uni last year....so much for seeking refuge in the army...lol -

I have no issue securing a good job. I was able to job hop twice in 6 months, reject several offers from other companies and at the same time increase my pay by 50% and also upgrade my post by a level. It's all about how you carry yourselves and how well you're known in the industry.
But no credit to this government of ours. I managed to secure my current job because of my own capabilities and capacity to take on this engineer's job in a EU MNC run by mostly German FTs. Plenty of opportunities of going overseas.
Do you still remember how did Roosevelt topple his competitor? I am not surprised to see it repeat here.
To depend on this hopeless government for job opportunities?

australisan troops used to be very good because those who joined really like soldiering. Now people join to get better benefits and citizenship, standard must have dropped, so now some of them died because they are meeting formidable foes in Iraq. Cannot tahan liao, even the Brits are pulling out, queen or no queen.
Personally I think those who can't compete in Singapore should really attempt to migrate to australia, good for Singapore and hope it is good for australia also. Please don't ask them to join the army if you don't like army life. We pay our regular very high salary and we don't want SAF to be a refugee camp. -

Since you guys requested that I make good suggestions. I think the civil service in Singapore should not consider non Singaporeans at all regardless of whether the jobs are security sensitive or not, unless they have no choice of Singaporeans in terms of the required skills or qualification.
