The alternative to OM's alternative is to be an FT yourself AND not take a lower pay. Globalisation can work both ways.Originally posted by oxford mushroom:Yet another thread about losers who cannot compete ranting about FTs who are able to do a better job for lower pay
Get off your butt and acquire better skills. Protectionism will not work...it is survival pressure that brings out the fittest in a community. Decades of protecting bumiputra interests in our neighbour only serve to create a Malay community that has fallen further behind and ill-equipped to face the challenges posed by the new economic powers of China and India.
If you won't work harder for less when there is a FT willing and able to fill your job, you deserve to lose it!
Maybe Singapore should also host a World Cup but only Singaporeans can qualify to participate.Originally posted by rooki:The logic to let in FTs to compete with citizens is fundamentally flawed.
You can get competitive workers while keeping them all local. Here's how.
Imagine an all-Singaporean workforce. So wages are cheaper and people more hardworking overseas? Ok, companies leave SG and set up shop in other countries. Here, Singaporeans feel the crunch of a shrinking economy, and you bet they will get off their butts and improve themselves and their relevance, after all this is their ricebowl and livelihood you're talking about. Then, companies will notice the new improved Singaporean worker, and begin reopening branches here. The end result is the same; maintaining the competitiveness of the Singaporean workforce and relevance to the global market.
However, the time taken for the workforce to adapt would cause a loss...in the tax dollars of the government. So forget about this plan being adopted by the mercenary P&P government.

I noticed that some like to compare Singapore to developing countries and admonish 'ungrateful' citizens for their 'good luck' for having the current govt, instead of comparing with the first world countries. And when they do manage to compare with the first world countries - they take everything out of concept to promote the idea that Singapore is the best and citizens should be grateful....Originally posted by Gazelle:Maybe Singapore should also host a World Cup but only Singaporeans can qualify to participate.
After that we can proclaim that Singapore produces the finest footballer in the world.

Your pts are valid above, but with regards to your very first post, you have not yet answered the following question:Originally posted by Gazelle:Exactly, instead of working as an executive in the office, you might be better off becoming a FT selling burgers at Macdonald in UK, USA and event Australia.

1) Yes, Singaporeans should all be grateful that our government and our forefathers have done a very good job over the past 50 years. Without them, Singapore will be nothing and our neighbouring countries are a good indicator of achievement.Originally posted by fymk:I noticed that some like to compare Singapore to developing countries and admonish 'ungrateful' citizens for their 'good luck' for having the current govt, instead of comparing with the first world countries. And when Singaporeans leave for greener pastures , some call them names like "quitters" when Singapore herself takes in foreign "quitters".
Anything different from your statement? Not really. Just too similar except some can mask it better under a different premise and make others believe the propaganda.
have you given up hope and you cant compete with FT?Originally posted by sir sickolot II:the Gazalle starts a thread, but does not answer the basic questions posed.
yet another lame thread that's going no where. please bring your can of worms somewhere else.
1) I think you are smart enough to answer that questionOriginally posted by eagle:Your pts are valid above, but with regards to your very first post, you have not yet answered the following question:
I see, the question was posed to you and because you cannot justify your first post, you decide to just brush it away?Originally posted by Gazelle:1) I think you are smart enough to answer that question
2) You could also include your 3 yr old niece and 80 yr old grand parents in the question if you want.
What is flawed is your mind and your limited ability to ask intelligent questions.Originally posted by eagle:I see, the question was posed to you and because you cannot justify your first post, you decide to just brush it away?
Seriously, most of the unemployment problems come from this middle aged group, and hence it is a valid question
To answer for your questions
1) Ya, it is obvious the logic of your first post is flawed now
2) Use your brains please, is a 3 yr old and an 80 yr old considered under the working population?![]()

Obviously, you are just trying to twist the questions to suit your own liking. Since you quite clearly do not understand the term middle-age that a kid would, I shall lower the standard of the questions for your understanding.Originally posted by Gazelle:What is flawed is your mind and your limited ability to ask intelligent questions.

1) What is the definition of Auntie and Uncles? Does it represent an age group? My 80 yr old grandmother is also an aunties of someone, and my 30 yr old cousin is also an auntie of someone. Which is which? Do you know?
2) How low-skilled are we talking about? can read, cant write, only know how to make coffee?
1) Please answer my question regarding your understanding of the term Auntie and Uncles. (this is a kid question, I am sure you will be to give me a very good and convincing reply)Originally posted by eagle:Obviously, you are just trying to twist the questions to suit your own liking. Will the army accept people to join from 40 years old to the 65 years old to work for them? If so, how many can they accept? Will they be able to accept everyone who got unemployed because foreign workers took over their job?
By low skills, it obviously means not having the necessary skills to fulfill a job requirement. Let's suppose, for the ease of you understanding the questions, that the unemployed middle aged group that we are talking about do not know how to operate a computer properly. Will the army still employ them?
Damn, felt more like talking to a kid instead of an adult now.
Did I say anything beyond the some people? Nope.Originally posted by Gazelle:1) Yes, Singaporeans should all be grateful that our government and our forefathers have done a very good job over the past 50 years. 2) Singapore is not a perfect country, just like Australia, UK and USA or any other developed countries. The reason why you feel that Singaporeans always like to promote Singapore is because you always like to use your Australia fairytale to talk down Singapore and you get rebutted all the time.
Just remember that not all Singaporeans are white di.ck suckers and Singapore wont stop you from leaving this country.
Please do not try to escape the question posed to you by posing more questions.Originally posted by Gazelle:1) Please answer my question regarding your understanding of the term Auntie and Uncles. (this is a kid question, I am sure you will be to give me a very good and convincing reply)
2) It is possible for the army to accept 40 and 65 years old (any anything in between) if you have the required skills and knowledge they need.
http://www.mindef.gov.sg/imindef/careers/job_opportunities/dxo/positions/vacancies.html
3) Dont ask me stupid question as to how many they can accept. Why dont you tell me how many Singaporeans cannot compete with FT.
4) If you dont have the required skill to fulfill a job, then you shouldnt be applying for the job. (again another childish question)
5) Army is not a welfare center, but an ideal place where you dont have to compete with FT. Very suitable for those young educated Singaporeans who think they are victims of FT.
But I must also highlight that the disavantage is that you will have one less reason to whine, which could make your life very miserable.
You should stop glorifying your status as an Australia PR by making up fairytale stories about others.Originally posted by fymk:Did I say anything beyond the some people? Nope.
Why so defensive? Got another rejection letter from Australia again issit?
Singapore has the best food and shopping areas. Those are facts to me. And I happily promote it in my fairytale land to other aussies.
Go ahead and stay in stagnancy then.
Ah you should also practice what you preach . Just because someone does well overseas does not mean it is a fairytaleOriginally posted by Gazelle:You should stop glorifying your status as an Australia PR by making up fairytale stories about others.
OMG, you cant stop glorifying about yourself can you?Originally posted by fymk:Ah you should also practice what you preach . Just because someone does well overseas does not mean it is a fairytale.
In the first place why must Singaporean compete with FT? Is it cause Singapore population too small land too big like Australia that's why need FT? Or meybe its because NUS dont have the resources to produce world class Ts? Oh i know it's cause we are stupid..... nah what is it then hmmOriginally posted by Gazelle:I dont think there is any issue of Singaporeans finding a job here in Singapore, the only problem I see is that Singaporeans are complaining that they are under paid for their skills and "talent" because of FT. And by having a university degree that doesnt make you any superior because many FT are uni grad too.
So my suggestion to those who are unwilling or incapable of competing with FT, join the army or become a civil servant.
What's so glorifying about that? Is there anything wrong with saying that one has done well?Originally posted by Gazelle:OMG, you cant stop glorifying about yourself can you?
