The surpluses were people's hard-earned monies - every single dollar and every single cent in them. These surpluses came from the taxes and the S$100,000.00 land profits levied by HDB from sale flats and $500,000.00 per family from vehicle taxes.Originally posted by reddressman:Is it correct to say that
when public sector pay rise,
all in this sector benefitted (more or less) regardless of performance?
now, private sector , where cut-throat competition occurs ,
the people working in this sector, is there such a thing for them i.e 1 pay hike applies to all in this sector?
whose money funds the pay rise of any sector?
who owns the money?
And you help by stopping people from discussing about it?Originally posted by the Bear:could you help by doing the math for this?

Just image the ministers can treat these surpluses as their success and reward themselves million-dollar salaries and up to 10 months' bonuses when so many citizens are suffering from unemployments and there will be no help given to unemployed except for the few few selective families put up for show.
How do you practise no free lunch when ministers are taking all the lunches and dinners in this blatant manner.

Singaporeans must be paid a low wage to remain competitive.
Ministers must be paid million dollar salaries to remain competitive.

x2Originally posted by the Bear:no.. i'm waiting for someone to come up with the math for this..
if we take away the pay from the ministers, and then pay the low-wage workers with the pay... how will that happen?
how much will each low-wage earner get?
what makes a low-wage earner?
how will you be able to pay these low-wage earners?
things like that?
these questions have to be answered else it's going to be like a bunch of mice agreeing that they have to tie a bell around the cat...
