FYI, with regards to cost of living, Germany has also recently (Apr 2007) raised its transport fees. I have forgotten the banks interest rate there, but I vaguely remember it was lower than in Singapore. GST is also at a much higher rate than here.Originally posted by faroukalhadad:Screwed Both Ways Front and Back by the Govt
Screw Front : Rising costs of living. transport up. food up. all up.
Screw Behind : Savings in banks eroded with 0.125% interest- one of lowest in the world.
How? What is the impetus to save nowadays?
No, medical services in Germany are not really free, and is in fact damn bloody ex. You have to buy a health insurance, and for students, it is already 52 euros a month (you can imagine for adults). This insurance makes visiting the doctor free... However, you still have to pay for the medicine. Basically, all the doctor gives you the prescription, and you will have to go to the pharmacy to pay for it.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:... sure, many other countries pay higher taxes and so on... but they get back in terms of free medical services and pension.... not live under despots that are bent on taking as much of their money as possible...
... no other way... the Singapore Martyr is the last hope...

I heard a BBC program on taxes and in Sweden... the taxes are really high but the people the BBC interviewer asked... are all happy to pay it because they get free medical and pension... (pensioners also pay taxes on the pension they receive and that's about the only gripe they have)Originally posted by eagle:No, medical services in Germany are not really free, and is in fact damn bloody ex. This system, I saw it in Belgium -- Ghent, Paris, Amsterdam and all of Germany. So ya, the medical services cannot be considered free.
you seriously think that there is a better alternative if you want change?Originally posted by Trump_Card:Sound like a line from a action-packed movie synopsis![]()

While civil disobedience is Chee's style of getting his message across to the masses, adopting this approach will lead to radicalism. If the people condone this, soon there will be molotov cocktails hurled at govt buildings or worse.
The problem with the masses is that they still fall for the carrots and 'freebies' handed out prior to each election; somehow, the perennial amnesia of past actions continues to plague our short-sighted people when they don't realise the power of their vote.
Addressing the chorus of disapproval concerning the mega-increases of top civil servants including ministers, LKY retorted: Singaporeans deserve a dose of incompetent leadership!
What he said is very true: we should give our vote to newbies and let them take up the mantel of leadership. There is never such a thing as absolute readiness; this applies appropriately to new leadership including the MIW. Losing 3-4 GRCs will surely knock their socks off, and a few ministers may just lose their jobs. Then again, the MIW keep insisting their ranks come highly qualified, so high that dozens of MNCs and top private sector companies are lining up just to hire them, therefore it justifies their 2-tier salary adjustments.
The problem is with the people who walk with eyes wide shut. Let politics play itself out.
The opps is true..... Buy House is more important because without transport, u still need a roof over your head..... If you don't buy house, where will you stayOriginally posted by T.Ryousuke:1 problem with ppl is monkey c monkey do. Slowly ppl start to learn smart. Buy house is the 1 kill us all, car still can sell and take cab. Life style can be change. But our wages will never go up like the minister. The problem getting serious when oil price goes up and wonder it will come down, if it doesn't then everyone pray hard that wat bible say is wrong.
