somehow, this article from malaysia has hit home hard. every bit is true.
poor families such as mine are really feeling the pinch.
ever since the economic boom started, income in my family has not risen a single cent. in fact, it has dropped due to foreign talent. outsourcing of jobs killed lower income jobs...
furthermore, the price increases are astronomical. 50cents to $3 for a bowl of noodles is not 2%! a chicken at $7 is insane! bus fare increases, taxi fare increases ( doesn't hurt me, take taxi's SO seldom)
we're supposed to be better off due to the economical boom, but are we actually?!?!
the elite class wouldn't mind being hurt by the increasing prices of Foie gras. in fact, i have a feeling that higher class restaurants will not increase prices, selecting to mantain prices so as to attract customers. woe befall those that increase their prices as the rich will just choose another substitute that's readily available.
however, there is no substitute for a bowl of fishball noodles. nor is there one for rice, for public transport!i'm sick to add on more examples. i shall leave it at this. -
actually, i don't quite understand how the economy can be considered booming because a lot of SGreans are finder it tougher to meet ends meet.
if i'm not wrong, in recent years, the gap between the rich and the poor has widened, with the rich getting richer and fatter bonuses, and the poor getting poorer as they can cope with the recent hikes in everything from taxis to flour.
as they say, nothing lasts forever, so it'll be some time before the current regime goes down, but i hope it's not in my lifetime, because the process will be very messy, violent, bloody and ugly.
one good thing is that our army is a citizen army.
i was wondering if really got rebellion one day, will the SAF, which is mainly made up of normal guys who hate NS,.....will they use arms against civilians?
i think we'll probably have a case where non-regular soldiers VS. regulars and regime / gahmen.
actually, i don't care if they increase their salary, the ministers, that is.......but they seem to be pretty indifferent to the recent crises we are having...all they ever did is to make empty, sweet statements like "No Singaporean will go hungry". sounds pretty assuring, eh?

Our deputy god of foreign affairs, Georgie Yeo, made an ocean of very professional-sounding speeches about helping Myanmar and all that, in the end? now the whole matter has dissolved into nothingness, nothing done, only empty speeches. -

They are nothing by Propaganda same as what used by the Nazis.. Distort satisitc,untrue news, Out of date economic report. Telling how good Sg econ and raise everywhere. New graduate getting 3.5k-4.5k starting pay,unemployed at all time low(My foot). I haven't read ST newspaper for 1yr liao. Go read internet and Internet is yr source of true news. -

Its a Sad Christmas.
I don't remember one like this before. One that I had such a tight budget spending on gifts, and going out for dinners. Money just disappears so fast.
And yes, I am one of those seriously displeased over the policies that were put into place. 21% Increment for Cabinet Ministers, while every average Singaporean has to struggle against current inflation levels. Honestly, who can tell me what the real inflation rate is now?
7% Goods and Services Tax, and when I dine out, i still get charged another 10% service charge.
Price increase for ERP gantries. Supposedly to solve the jams on expressways. A problem created when they drastically DROPPED the COE prices that sent everyone into an automobile buying spree.
And for crying out loud, LEAVE our CPF alone.
Already we are paying 20% income tax, 7% GST, and another 20% CPF. The percentage of income we are giving up is almost the same as countries like Sweden, where all Social And Welfare benefits are borne by the Government. I'm not saying we need to be like them, but just cut the people some slack! More welfare benefits for the old and needy please!
Its shameful to see 50-70 year olds manning the counter at Macdonalds for $4 measly bucks an hour at their age. THey are supposed to be enjoying their Golden years, not slogging away at fast food restaurants. Let the pimply 14-18 year olds do that!
Its beyond shameful, its heartbreaking to see a 90 year old woman, walk the streets at 2am in the morning, prowling the streets just to find aluminium cans, cardboard boxes, cutting them up just to sell them for a few dollars.
We appreciate all the Economic policies thats been devised and implemented thus far. We couldn't have made it this far without them. But please, rethink the non-economic policies. A little more welfare for those who really need them won't hurt. The Government has to look after its people, not the other way round. -

I really love Singapore, I really do being a Singaporean. The sad thing, the country is really going into a state of decline.
I remember the times when people used to hang flags during National Day because they wanted to, because they just have to show love for their country. Now, it is hard to even find people hanging flags out of their window, even with the campaigns that encourage them to do so.
It has come to such a sad state that the town councils have to employ Bangladeshi workers to hang the Singapore flags for them along the corridor. I remember how my grandparents used to tell me how much they appreciated the government for raising their living standards, now, I hardly hear sincere phrases praising the government from anyone, including the older generations.
I really feel sad about the situation now. In schools, a whopping 45% of Singaporean students said they plan to leave the country in a survey I conducted.
The problem? Singaporeans simply don't feel that this is their home anymore. They are not getting any incentives by living here. Themselves, the foreigners and rich seems to be the government's focus when implementing policies. The tax-payers are left out in the midst of this so-called progress. I really am afraid that this country may just one day break down and fall into a state of disarray. The golden age is coming to an end. History has shown that city-states never last... -

Even USA, UK, etc has propaganda, BUT Singapore's propaganda is one sided, whereas democracies have two sided propaganda.

Personally, I don't even dare to imagine how high the cost of living in Singapore would be like in 20 years. Who wants to live in a country where you pay so much for your basic necessities, and gets paid so little. Especially when you see foreign talents around you getting paid so much more?
People would not identify themselves as Singaporeans, and neither would these foreign talents who come here just to earn the bucks. When you have a "country" that no one identifies with or cares for, do you truly have a country?
What you have is a business hub with an administrative entity. Not a nation or country. -
Singapore bathed too much in its past glories that it almost became a form of self delusion that things will always remain as beautiful as how we rose from the dust in the past. This delusion is intended for the general masses, but it as time goes, people with position of power are actually falling for their own propaganda - just because we have a glorious past, we will surely achieve the same in the future.
Some countries had that sort of mindset too and things just decline from there.
Whatever it is, Singaporean are too politically apathetic to change anything.
Singaporean will complain.
But during election goes, they will still drop vote for PAP.
Cry foul?
Cry lor.
Because at the end of the day, Singaporean will still vote for a known evil, than an unknown evil. It's a fact proven a million times.
Because most Singaporean don't even give much damn about anything outside materialism... as long as you get your six months bonus, you are happy. Hang national day flag? What's that? Got money or not?
Can't blame everyone also - you know, you don't really own anything in this country.
Not even your HDB.
So what's so special being a Singaporean?
We can't even find designer/sponsor for our Miss Singapore because it's simply not a 'economically viable' decision.
How sad is that?
