I share your sentiments, but those people are probably too distressed to care anymore. Attempt to commit suicide.
309. Whoever attempts to commit suicide, and does any act towards the commission of such offence, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine, or with both.
Of course, if one dies in the process of "attempted suicide", then the offence (attempt) had already been committed.
I heard that its just a "token punishment" though since its really quite impossible to impose a punishment on an already deceased person.

Suicides numbering 2 cases per day are suppressed and not reported. This is called nation building or national interest.
However when suicides occur at MRT such news cannot be suppressed so they would be announced with half truths like accidents or justifications instead of suicides.
This is the level of accountability and transparency now. This is how the country is governed - no bad news but all good news. -
Another important factor not to publicise these suicides is there is a tendency for people (with suicidal ideas) to copy these acts of self destruction. And most likely the psychologists must have advised the authorities to give as little information as possible.
