On-Line Citizens, looks like we need to depend on our own to establish low overheads living & working in a place and time like this. Blame it on global inflationary phenomenon or greed, its not looking bright in the coming years.
The Whites are helping by passing on the cost to us. Thanks a (few) Million ! ERP, GST, Property tax, HDB Prices, Taxi Fares, Bus Fares, SMRT Fares, SP Services, Town Council Fees, Healthcare, the list goes on.
Perhaps those who have successfully rode the wave of inflation could share with us methods of lowering our cost of living, and increasing our income?
Reduce Domestic Consumption:
Avoid eating at restaurants and foodcourts - why pay GST, Service Charge etc amounting to about 17% just to fill your stomach? Foodcourts spending should also be cut, those greedy operators paid a high price to the greedy landlords thus spreading the cost to you? Gimme a break...
Patronise hawkers, our local hardworking enterprising individuals. They need our support more than the big corporations.
Forget *bucks the coffee suks, you are paying for a self-service coffee at inflated prices to a big corporate american firm. Hell, *bucks could not even break into the Melbourne coffee scene. Go to our good old kopi tiam for good old rich tasty coffee that is served to you at your table, under a dollar.
Shop at Sheng Shiong and other small provision shop players - Why let big corporate enterprise make your money? The small players needs our support, dun let Big corp with Big building dominate and corner the market.
Park your money Elsewhere
Look at our local bank rates .... its daylight robbery. Go research on a country you can trust and estab a savings a/c there. Off the top of my head, China's banks are offering 4% plus for FD ! I am not a financial expert but the figures sure beat my CPF rate. I am sure there are better rates elswhere.
Bottomline, cut your domestic consumption increase your savings. Please share your methods.
