I understand what you mean... In other first world countries, you could still go by without a uni degree, but perhaps from a talent; sports (specifically soccer), arts, etc, that in Singapore, even if you have the talent, you wouldn't earn as muchOriginally posted by fishbuff:it is a very different story when u are dealing with
- working 50+ hours a week in private sector,
- dealing with bosses and colleagues,
- face shitty customers,
- beat traffic jams on public transportation to service customers,
- trying to feed a family with school kids with a meer $3k/mth,
- days and nights u think about losing your job and get replaced, especially when u are 40-50.
- worry whether your kids will through the same difficult situation.
- cant get uni education.. struggled with night school every mon, wed, fri...
- losing job = cant pay mortgage = cant pay kids' education = wife mad at you = marital breakdown
ask your dad or uncles.. im sure they will face similar predicament as listed above.
how i wish i can go thru' full time studies in sg uni. instead i have to work full time, study part time for my advance diploma, degree and master while holding full time job and support family on both side, and i never earn more than $2k/mth before 30 years old.
u have the blessing of intelligence, good family background and education opportunities which people in my age group will die for, cherish it!

What support are you talking about, support in words or action or others?Originally posted by PRP:Even if one posted the best political idea in this forum, what would be the use if few members appreciate and support it ?That's why i say members need to show support besides commenting.
... even if you don't "struggle to manage your finance" you should also speak up for those that do, because of the unjust policies forced down their throats....Originally posted by fishbuff:true to an extent.
but when u struggle to manage your finance and handle your family with kids over the worries of losing jobs, lack of $$$, job and family pressure etc.. it is usually alot easier to let off steam on a forum without thinking "hmmm,... now i have this comment, how can i propose solutions to my govt to resolve it?"
observe your dad and uncles. they are the true reflections of what commoners are facing.. of course unless they are high achiever.
Maybe jobs are created for foreigners.Originally posted by googoomuck:The govt has caused a dilemma through stupidity.
Not say I want to comprain lah huh.
Why create the kind of jobs where the people are either overqualified or under qualified? I mean, are there enough O and N level grads out there to fill the lower income jobs?
On the other hand, the govt. said that there are also higher paying professional jobs created but the people are unqualified for the jobs.
So the question is, by creating all these jobs, how is the govt going to help the citizens that are either overqualified, under qualified or unqualified?

Hey, you never know if some top guys from the civil service are taking a look here for solutions to the ever increasing problems in transport, healthcare and employment.Originally posted by LazerLordz:If anyone here thinks that SC is a policymaking forum or is obliged to give actual solutions, they're deluded.
Who the heck does such stuff in a public forum anyway.![]()
From the looks of things, I think they're still taking the wrong solutions.Originally posted by charlize:Hey, you never know if some top guys from the civil service are taking a look here for solutions to the ever increasing problems in transport, healthcare and employment.
Why did you think they had to come up with essay competitions to get the public to provide solutions for them?
Too many solutions provided.Originally posted by LazerLordz:From the looks of things, I think they're still taking the wrong solutions.![]()
