The Gurkhas are not Singaporeans, therefore during a coup, they are more incline to kill Singaporeans for my safety, rather than my Singaporean bodyguard.
They can ensure that I have a safe journey to the airport where my plane will be waiting. -

There is a fallacy in your statement also, the Gurkhas aren't used for normal protection during public appearances. Unless they so good at camouflage till nobody can see them.
In my opinion, the Gurkhas are a contingency plan for coup.
Say if you are a leader, if you fear a coup. What will be your contingency plan for escape? Obviously you can no longer trust your army or police. Who else to trust? The Gurkhas of course, they are loyal to their master.
If you have zero trust in your own army and police, might as well scrap all the NS, then employ Gurkhas for your army. -
the gurkhas are posted outside the houses of VIPs and embassies cos I don't think no SPF police officers or SAF personnel would swallow that kind of menial duty and be alert ....
but if you have been to shake small lee, lau lee, or lau goh's hands at functions, or even watch the news at all .. you'll notice that the fit looking people wearing the cream coloured wireless sets are definitely not gurkhas .... -

If you are an unpopular leader in a country and you fear a coup. You would plan a contingency to swiftly get out of the country. If you can't trust your army and police then. Who can you trust? The Gurkhas because they are very loyal to their masters.

Personally, I spent a couple of months training with two of them back in NS. They are perhaps the best human beings I've ever had the chance to know. And no, they aren't paid a bomb.

This is not the first time such a topic come up. They are humans. i know a few of their kids who went to school with me. They jog outside of their camsp daily too.
They are not only seen at ministers house, they can be found at all of our major checkpoint like Changi airport, and the causeway. They did duty at IOC, they can be found at high interest targets like American embassy and american club.
They are there as a extra force, to put the STAR team at such places is is unreasonable. To put the military there is even more unreasonable.
