Someone ELSE replied... Why would I wanna be a citizen of Singapore? It's not like alot more benefits I'll get as a citizen as compared to a PR.... Besides.. Other countries give their people REAL RIGHTS... Take care of their people when they cannot feed themselves... Look after the old folks who had contributed to their country... From this anecdote I gather that one permanent resident felt there was insufficient incentive for him to pursue a citizenship based on his perception of bad treated by the Government of citizens who could no longer contribute to the economy as compared to other countries.Originally posted by Devil1976:TODAY.... ... you expect dishonorable immoral despots 'to correct this problem'?Originally posted by phil30k:From this anecdote I gather that one permanent resident felt there was insufficient incentive for him to pursue a citizenship based on his perception of bad treated by the Government of citizens who could no longer contribute to the economy as compared to other countries.
I have an anecdote also. About 12 years ago I was speaking to someone who had a relative who emigrated to Australia. He was laughing and talking about about plans to bring in more of his relatives because of how good it was there. That after one person got in, you had it made, because you could bring in relatives who would not otherwise qualify and the state welfare would provide for them thereby "supplementing" their household income.
My view on older citizens with regards to CPF is that the progress they have worked so hard for and contribute so much to has devalued their CPF savings and the Government owes it to them to correct this problem.
I know someone that went to Australia and came back to work here and he told me that he had the best of both worlds (like all the PRs in Singapore) and do you think that is a good solution or we should demand change?Originally posted by ispyyy:*nod nod*
Singapore citizen not much diff with Singapore PR
Somemore, Singapore male citizen need to waste 2 yrs of their time... But the difference of benefits between PR n citizen cannot cover the waste of precious 2 yrs youth...
pledge ourselves as one united people,I believe we have not done this. Whether or not this will happen, we shall see when PAP falls.

Most Singaporeans prefer stability over anything. If a change will bring about instabilities, I doubt if we will ever need a change in government.Originally posted by Poh Ah Pak:I wonder when Singapore can get rid of this PAP regime and bring in change rather than the same old bullsh*it.

There's a history of pension schemes and their not being sufficient due to erosions caused by increased standards of living and inflation and concerns of the impact that welfare places on the tax revenues of the government by draining funds from other projects.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:... you expect dishonorable immoral despots 'to correct this problem'?
You do not think that it was a calculated policy objective so people have to work after retirement?

... as someone said, they are immoral. Immoral despots, how can you expect and hope that they will do that without some prodding? They rather spent in on their gambling sprees overseas.Originally posted by phil30k:There's a history of pension schemes and their not being sufficient due to erosions caused by increased standards of living and inflation and concerns of the impact that welfare places on the tax revenues of the government by draining funds from other projects.
I believe the introduction of CPF was seen as a management solution to shift the responsibility and burden of retirement financing to the citizens and to anticipate erosions with CPF interest rates. The government also benefited from the creation of a source for cheap borrowing.
I hope to see a short term solution by the government to top it up to more realistic values for old citizens. For the longer term, to address changes necessary to allow the CPF to fulfill it's intended purpose.
Otherwise we face the spectre of citizens who renounce citizenship just so they can plan their retirements.
The only time to SCREW the PAP is during ERECTION but Sinagaporeans prefer to BLOW their chances at the ballot boxes.Originally posted by Poh Ah Pak:I wonder when Singapore can get rid of this PAP regime and bring in change rather than the same old bullsh*it.
I agree with you. However, I believe a grassroot movement by the older citizens may very well galvanize the youth of today. After all, if we want to know our future, all we have to do is open our eyes and look at them.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Most Singaporeans prefer stability over anything.
