2 Chinese nationals face vice charges

TWO Chinese nationals were hauled to court on Thursday on vice charges and for engaging scapegoats to run their massage parlours in return for money.
Lin Chunmei, 39, faces a total of 10 charges - nine for corruption and one for managing a brothel.
She allegedly gave a total of $5,100 to Low Soon to help her register a company, Mei Yuen Beauty & Therapy, and to assume any criminal liabilities on her behalf for managing the illegal massage parlour at People's Park Centre in 2006.
Between March and December that year, she is said to have managed a brothel at the premises at Upper Cross Street.
In the same court, Yang Zhirong, 38, is charged with giving a $500 bribe to Mr Low in November 2005 to help her use his name to register a company, Kang Ler Beauty Treatment Centre, and to take the rap for operating the unlicensed parlour at People's Park Centre.
She is also accused of giving another $500 to Mr Chong Ah Choy for similarly registering Chun Tian, also at People's Park Centre, in his name the following year.
She faces eight vice charges - one each of procuring and harbouring a prostitute from China, three of managing brothels at People's Park Centre, and another three of living on immoral earnings.
Both women were represented by lawyers. Lin was offered bail of $20,000 while Yang's bail is $25,000.
Their passports were impounded.
A pre-trial conference will be held on Jan 25. -
