Most of the people I've heard who complained about jobs being stolen actually TURNED DOWN job offers, scorning the pay. Hurbris? Perhaps. Stupidity? Definately.
And it's not like there aren't jobs for the locals. Most of us just expect too much out of life. Bosses are telling me they NEED to employ locals, but can't find any who would take the job. Without local employees, companies can't legally employ foreign ones.
Unemployment rate is at an all time low in Singapore. If you truly cannot find a job, ask yourself if you are overvaluing your service to the company.
I submit also for your consideration. The foreigner you mentioned has to work harder than the singaporean to achieve this result of being able to replace the singaporean. Should the foreigner not be rewarded for his efforts?Originally posted by phil30k:I submit for your consideration.
A foreigner whose home currency is low compared to the S$ may accept a lower pay to maintain his family in his home country in the standard they are used to. A Singaporean with family to support in Singapore may not.

Similarly, should the Singaporean not reflect and put in more effort, instead of sitting still and complaining about being replaced?
That argument of yours is like two competing brands in the same market trying to gain an edge in cost cutting. When one of them loses, can he cry foul because his costs are higher than his competitor? That's ridiculous.
