yeah .. you should endure it ... as long it does not happen to my estate is fine ..Originally posted by Ah Cek:bear with it lar. air defence is crucial to our nation's security
When you moved to Jurong, was Tenah Air Base and all the low flying jets there already? if they came after you moved in, you can complain. if not, those were existing conditions, you made your choice.Originally posted by qpicanto:Dont think it is fair to suggest that Jurong residents cannot take it they move out, can u imagine what would the reaction like if suddenly they decide to smack the airbase in the middle of let say Toa Payoh town, sure alot of residents will write in to say no. Jurong residents are not the only one that enjoys the freedom of airspace.
RAF Tengah was commissioned in 1939, renamed 1971 , then tengah was a idyllic village, would think that is the original existing conditions. Jets are now almost scrapping the roof of flats and no plan since 1971?Originally posted by sgdiehard:When you moved to Jurong, was Tenah Air Base and all the low flying jets there already? if they came after you moved in, you can complain. if not, those were existing conditions, you made your choice.
I guarantee you they will never "smack" an airbase in the middle of Toa Payoh, or Shenton Way.
How long have you stayed in Singapore? Residents in Paya Lebar have similar issue, from civilian aircraft to military aircraft. Residents near seletar airbase, now enduring only the noise of some small planes, later when RR moved, the testing of engines would be some noise they may have to endure.
Some people have to endure the noise of MRT with the track just outside their window but the station is about 500 m away. In Toa Payoh some residents never open their window facing the PIE because of noise......if you live in the jungle you have to endure occasional visits of monkeys into your kitchen and snake into your bathroom, while you enjoy the quiet environment.
Take it with a lighter heart, for military enthusiasts, living near Tenah Airbase always enable me to witness the latest military planes visiting the country. It used to be the F14 of the USN, F15 of the UNAF, F18 and F111 from the OZ, now I watch the Typhoon, the Rafale... I even saw the C5, the largest plane. Quite interesting.
By the way, some planes make louder noise, like the F15, twin engined, more noise than the F16. But soon we will have our own F15, I think they would be noiser.
Get used to it, friend, or you have to move out, for your own health, ....to Australia??![]()

So the airbase was there way before the flats were built. you had the choice to buy or not to buy the flat.Originally posted by qpicanto:RAF Tengah was commissioned in 1939, renamed 1971 , then tengah was a idyllic village, would think that is the original existing conditions. Housing is the more pressing concern flats for those looking for a flat. Arent HDB suppose to ensure issues such jets noise that may surpass safety limits by some irate pilot are addressed before releasing the flats to the people.
sorry got no interest in jet fighters- they are just elegantly designed machines that kills and pollutes the air 1000 times more than a euro 3 truck.![]()
That is exactly what i meant. Why the the jet needed so much power in the engine when the rest dont, which prompted checking with tengah in a different occasion, asking whether the jet is practisng a stiff climb after a simulated landing abortion but it is confirmed negative.Originally posted by sabaisabai:I'm in the same situation at Kampong Arang (Kallang). The issue isn't a matter of tahaning the noise from plane after plane. The issue is that some of the landings are *much* louder than others. Why is that? Why can 80% land at a reasonable volume yet 20% shake the building? Flight path and height is the same regardless.
It's unnecessary noise that's the problem
can see parachuters?Originally posted by Manager433:Come and buy a flat in Potong Pasir. Best in higher units and facing the MacPherson area looking as far as ECP. Here, you can see C130, Fokker, F16, F5, F18, CH53, Super Puma, UFOyes....UFO, C5, KC135, all airlines coming in to land at CAP. Yes. No joke. With all these interesting planes to watch, who needs PS2???

that is good newsOriginally posted by HyperFocal:... this issue is going to change...
.. Inside Info has it that they will be landing from a different approach in about 2 years time...
... this means, residents in Jurong, CCK, will not be annoyed by noise polution...
... this is one positive move...
no CH53, we got CH-47SD onlyOriginally posted by Manager433:Come and buy a flat in Potong Pasir. Best in higher units and facing the MacPherson area looking as far as ECP. if you can create a silencer for the engine , you are a genius.......Originally posted by qpicanto:As the tengah airbase is very near the jurong central areas, jet noise is a commonplace. Often it would cause a chain reaction when a jet noise nuisance is amplified - shaking glasses, baby cries, dog barks.
However, there are many times when a jet is causing more noise nuisance than it should. Noticed that when say a F-16 is landing and is flying over the jurong library (who put the library there) the noise level can be kept lower though, esp. when it approaches the evening. However, some sick pilot tend to do a 'top gun maverick' revv'ing the noise level, which can be heard coming from the tengah side - something like a very loud and deep boom and all in a sudden stop.
Today 22/1/08 2.45 pm there is this jet flying low, ready to land , over the jurong west library and which is also near a medical centre , and of course tens of thousands of households -was coming quite fast and noise is very sharp and ear piercing.
Understand that tengah dont practice emergency take off at residential areas according to one of the duty officer when checked with them some time ago.
would miindef please look into the matter.
nothing's stopping an American CH53 from landing in Paya Lebar.Originally posted by martin_lim85:no CH53, we got CH-47SD only
Brother, 2 USN CH53 SeaStallion. Flew past my block before. 730pm. Sky not fully dark but can hear the rotor sound and the hugh rotor blade. That was many months ago. I know how a CH53 look like.Originally posted by martin_lim85:no CH53, we got CH-47SD only
