Singapore was given Self - Governing status in 1955 with David Marshall as Chief Minister. He resigned and the post was given to a another RI Rafflesian Mr Lim Yew Hock.

from the navy too. even sg navy patrolling along the sg border, we nearly had conflict witht the malaysian and the indonsian navy even around horseburg lighthouse. let alone xmas island. good riddance to that island, we wouldnt want to risk a direct conflict with indonesia should the contesting of territory breaks out.

What powers did David Marshall and Lim Yew Hock have with regard to sovereignty issues? By some accounts, the sovereignty was 'transferred' from Singapore to Australia. Australia requested the British Government to do so. The Aussies didn't need to ask Singapore for permission. The British Government had the final say. -
