with so many ladies Q up to buy expensive bread talk
of course old uncles will increase prices of their bread too
frankly bread no matter what
is still from flour
i wonder wat is so special about bread talk also
![]()
Yup, I'm boycotting Breadtalk........ ![]()
So now with rising cost, we still need to pay brand bread price but only get to eat non-branded bread instead? ![]()
Keke, i wonder when he will advice us to skip lunch next. We wont die from it and yet do away with all the problem that associate with overweight. But wait, wont that affect our expensive healthcare profit or beauty industry? On second tot, just eat non-branded bread for now.
GST increase by 2%, ERP increased by dunno how many percent, Bus Fare increase few cents, taxi fare increase... Coupled with the increase in oil price and no reduction in oil tax, and adding together the normal 2.5% inflation rate, it is easy to see how the 5% inflation rate is derived.
Not to mention that the newspaper also says the inflation will taper off to the 2+% in the 2nd half of next year, a bullsh*t statement because by then, the effects of GST on price increase would have diminished.
World class government indeed... Little mathematical tactics like this will not be able to cloud the eyes of those who can calculate.
if they r so sincere in helping the needy and lower income group, y increase their own annual salary by almost 20%? talk talk n talk, where is the action? we pay taxes and deal wif inflations jus to pay these kind of ppl? yes ppl may argue that inflation is bcos of increased labour costs and demand bla bla bla, but come on man every1 is affected, i dont c other ppl pay increasing by 20%? or mayb the $$$ is used on FTs and other countries. "Think of the $50,000 (or $500,000?) given to <snow city> the next time u buy something that may b Taxed ppl"
frankly speaking
i wonder all the ppl at the top
do they even eat branded bread in the first place?
maybe breakfast at shangri la hotel
?
they are given free food paid by our tax dollar.
they dont eat branded bread. too low class for them. branded bread is now considered commoner food. ppl like them import food (air-flown) to eat, cos they r "special"
Let us look at things from a more matured viewpoint.
The current government is enticed by their own pre election promises with the current rupture of prices. With the call to encourage citizens to buy house brand groceries in order to reduce expenditure is certainly a good way to tackle the plight.
By encouraging people to patronize NTUC is certainly not going to reflect well on the integrity of the government as we all know where does NTUC leads to up the hierarchy.
We do have many other house brands which offer competitive prices with reasonable quality.
First Choice (Cold Storage), Carrefour and Giant definitely fits the bill. And if location is a concern, Shop and save, Prime marts which sell groceries at unbelievable prices are also better alternatives.
I don’t patronize NTUC anymore even though it is only a 5 minute drive away as the main reason is because the NTUC prices are actually generally not that attractive. Not even products packed under the house brand.
The government’s rejection to pleas from the public to curb prices of certain products is a wise move made. It is the most perilous move to take to limit investor’s profits by forceful legislation. This not only forces the possibilities of products withdrawal, it will also lead to quality compromisation with the same brand name. If there is no means of production that will aid cost reduction, ultimately someone will have to shoulder the extra costs of bringing in a more expensive item. And in case of withdrawal, the house brands will be in a more strategic location to claim monopoly. And naturally being closer to monopoly, the public will be closer to the chopping board.
Who in the country with a driving licence will want to take public transport if you can own your personal transport. Who in the country will want to eat plain rice and bread daily if you can afford a sumptuous dinner in a fine restaurant as much as possible. Who in the country will want to cry about rising medical costs and settling for a polyclinic when you can afford your own personal doctor. None of the people want to be left behind the average income percentile. Apparently, more and more people are still crying to this millionaire government to be spoon-fed. People are still voting them in.
IMHO, I‘d prefer to jettison myself of these problems of living costs. Scale the corporate ladder and upgrade your income to cushion the impact of the rising costs. This is for the long term good. Many of my foreign colleagues and friends or even migrated friends have warned about the constantly widening income gap. If you do not buck up now, to wear you off and leave you behind the average income percentile, a decade will suffice. It is simply not sensible to pledge allegiance to a government who will not protect you.
This government cannot even live to justify the million dollar salary. In conclusion, do not depend on this government. Depend on yourselves.
probably they will say;"if u dont have bread to eat, there's always mcdonald around the corner!"
next they will say
take a look at our sillyporeans
i told them many many times just eat NTUC bread
but they dun heed my advice
keep on eating Donut for 1.20 per piece
and worse buy in half a dozen at least

Do you guys think that if we dont have NTUC fairprice supermarket, the price of food stuffs will be cheaper?

Yes seriously, because NTUC is not the cheapest. Nor is it the best in any aspect. The current competition is sufficient to keep prices low. We have the mega-marts Carrefour and Giant, the budgeters Sheng Siong, Prime Mart and Shop & Save. NTUC and Cold Storage are still the more expensive ones. But Cold Storage brings in premium overseas brands and foodstuffs mainly.
And so the last in line is surprisingly NTUC.
After going around to buy foodstuffs, I still prefer Carrefour and Cold Storage for reasonable prices and quality.
Perhaps I may be wrong because I am not such an expert in this area. However, NTUC is definitely not on my list. Where do you do your grocery purchase?

Maybe locals should be encouraged to go to JB, Malaysia to buy their daily grocery instead at NTUC supermarket. I used to go to JB to buy daily grocery with my sister. Two packets of HL milk cost RM7.99 n boy did we saved quite a bit though. Anyway more n more locals going to JB to buy their grocery.
Will, JB is probably the most expensive city in Malaysia, thanks for singapore shoppers. Dairy stuffs in Malaysia are subsidized by the government, thats why I too make a point to buy them when I am in Malaysia, especially those Anlene Gold milk powder for senior citizen :)
Here is an article about house brand products
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/326992/1/.html
the increasment of floor make everything expensive..
Giant and Sheng Siong are also better than NTUC , NTUC nowadays cut throat, not cheap the goods. They dont serve any purpose if NTUC cant help reduce the price. They should abolish the word fairprice after the logo
over rall i still think sheng siong is the best

NTUC is not the cheapest. They only sell their own stuffs cheap... ie NTUC bread, NTUC cheese, etc... And the quality is not exactly very good...
It is popular because it has the most branches all over...
That is why they ask you to buy house brand to cut cost, to day's ST reported there is an uncle who buys house brand from NTUC and he saves $600 a year!

not surprising. whenever PM say something, the ST will go find someone that did that and publish it in the papers so everyone will do the same. This tatic is too old.
maybe next time the PM will say walk or cycle to work more. Then maybe i will appear in the paper saying i can save so much a year by cutting down on taking public transports. and PM will want you all to follow my way. ![]()
It was akin to saying 'Let them eat cake!'
I'll really be impressed if these high political figures practice what they preach. Hehe...
Meanwhile, I'll continue to take what the government of Singapore says with a pinch of salt.
;)
i buy only ntuc bread. its only $1 compare to those branded ones that cost twice as much.
I had the chance to work for a FMCG company and I must say that there are many products in the market that are actually the same but priced differently because for branding.
