Just saw a clip form 60 min on yahoo about a group of young danes saying they are happy and untroubled cause their life is paid for by the state from education to healthcare.
But Is it really sustainable? Can one get something for life for nothing?
For the danes I say to them ...be happy while you still can cause nothing last forever more so in a welfare state
Yeah.
At least they were happy once. ![]()
What just talking to someone who recently migrated from US to denmark. According to him, the place is nice, however tax rate is very high (about 60+%) and car are even more expensive than Singapore.
From Wiki:
The Danish welfare model is accompanied by a taxation system that is both broad based (25% VAT and excise) and with high income tax rates (minimum tax rate for adults is 39.6%).
However, in 2006 and 2007, surveys ranked Denmark as "the happiest place in the world," based on standards of health, welfare, and education. In 2007 Copenhagen was ranked the third most liveable city in the world by Monocle magazine
During WW2, the government was extremely helpful towards Jews living in the country, and the resistance managed to get most of the Jews to Sweden and safety.
There are 13 Danish Nobel laureates...and mm lee said that the govt of Scandinavian countries are mediocre…kekekeke
It is a high tax high welfare society.
Norway is also like that but I think the Norweigians have the added advantage of North Sea crude. I don't recall Denmark having oil.
With Great Welfare comes Great Taxations......![]()
But heck...as long as I know where my money goes and accounts are transparent, it is okay for me
Yah that's why we need the Opposition to propose a credible alternative economy policy so people can choose.
Maybe a higher-tax and more welfare society is what Singaporeans want.

unfortunately, we are evolving from a low tax, zero welfare society into a rising tax, still no welfare society ... ![]()
even our so called "pension plan" is an annuity common pool that's self-funded by the tax payers .... but you really have to admire the brillance of the chap who though this up .... no cost (to the goverment that is ....) universal welfare ! .... ![]()
