As you guys know I suffered form learning disabilty and was jeered at by teachers and classmates for failing tests and exams.
So I checked out the definition on wiki:
A learning disability is not indicative of low intelligence. People with learning disabilities sometimes have difficulty achieving at their intellectual level because of a deficit in one or more of the ways the brain processes information.
I found that I wasn't stupid and wants to know if there are any ways of helping adults or kids here who suffered like I do.Thanks MOE for your guidance!
If you guys have any ways to help people like us and not suffer needlessly under MOE QC inspection , please post here...people who work in education are welcome
discover & develop other talents lah ......
thanks hippo,
I was shocked to find parents who spend 1k a month sending their kids to private preschools without even knowing their child temperament and learning level.Guess its' our kiasu system....
Undue pressures given to our kids at such tender age is not really healthy
if i'm not wrong, such illness is curable..
If you have a learning disability, and you managed to get through mainstream education, you are very lucky.
Possibly, you can volunteer at a special school. Metta school has many children with learning disabilities.

learning disability is not an illness. But you can try to get around it with different ways of learning and overcome it so it does not need to handicap your learning.
I always forget what I study though I understand it![]()

what learning disability do you have and how did you get it diagnosed?
I just cannot do well in test and exams and came to realise I have this disorder...
It's not mental illness just that I'm not academically inclined

having a learning disability doesn't mean you will not be academically inclined
lots of famous people have learning disabilities and did not let it handicap them academically
one famous person with dyslexia would be Richard Branson.
On the other hand, not being academically inclined ,does not mean you have a learning disability either.
It could be that your personality is not suited to the schooling environment.
I have mild ADD and a bit of undiagnosed dyslexia, but hey, I'm faring pretty fine in life, although I didn't do too well for my O levels. I don't let my disabilities get the better (or worse, for that matter) of me.
I never really did fare well in school because I couldn't cope with the regimental education system. I was discouraged from the very beginning and my potential could never be recognized because I did not bother to put in the effort as I did not see the point. I don't like mindless mugging for hours on end, nor do I like to learn things that I would otherwise not use later in life.
I never got to study what I liked due to the rigid subject combination and the stigma of getting into the 'less smart class', plus that stupid peer influence. Had I chosen what I truly liked, I would have soared to great heights and achieved better.
If given the chance to restart my life, I would, but I don't see the point. I have learnt not to let society shape my decisions, and you shouldn't too. Just because you can't fare well in the sg education system doesn't mean you're worthless.
No one is truly stupid (unless you're talking about the general human stupidity that Einstein was talking about) and everyone is made differently. Everyone has their own strengths. Just find out what yours are and work on it.
Don't let what people think of you shape YOU. You are who you are.
Cheers and always look on the bright side of life, my dear.
