As a local, you are entitled to the subsidy without any 3 years bond at all. But that's only for local unis.
needless to say, the government is treating the scholars very very well..
full tuition fees, monthly allowance, hostel fees etc.
but the scholars are the elites which the government dig from china or India.
a lot of them are from middle-class, good background, capable families like professors, governors, businessman and etc.
they are capable in paying the fees.
but there are here in singapore, to pursue a higher standard of education than china or india.
not here for the money...
in addition, they are staying here for six years or probably the rest of their life in singapore to contribute to the economy...
isn't that good to singapore?
anyway, the government is subsidizing local university students through various ways, such as growth package and edusave and etc..
<!-- var dd1 = new YAHOO.util.DDProxy('maindiv');dd1.setHandleElId('titlediv'); // -->
still studying. aiming to emigrate to other countries if there's a chance. who wouldn't?
all we should do is to squeeze the most out of this flawed system, and zao after that. take advanatage of the low uni tuition fee, and after graduation, since you can no longer apply for such subsidy again, you emigrate permanently to other countries more deserving of you, and never to come back again.
Well, i'm sure that those recipient countries will be grateful to the gahment for spending so much to groom free ready-made talents for them.
getting stuck in this hellhole, if screwed-up policies. annuities at 80 years old, blah blah blah. why not simply spend the money and live a more fulfiling life?
ha. one day, singapore will be eventually transformed into a special adminstrated region of china, like hong kong. there, the FAP can happily rule over their flock of "FTs"...

tried already. im diploma holder. impossible to get into NTU/NUS at that time. no dip holders then were able to get into NTU until several years later but even so, it is usually the distinction holders that can get in.
compare to here in QLD, anyone that wish to study, CAN study with full subsidy for citizens and no age or race discrimination. shiok! i would love to study psychology or arts when i retire.
SO FAR your beloved Australia did not enter into a serious recession for the last 10 years plus minus. It does not meant it wont happen in the future. dont ignore the trend that the sun is setting on the west. At the heat of the recessionary moment, the immigrants especially Chinese (ex-Singaporeans included) would be given a kick and then a spit.
All party will end. When the party ends, outsiders are outsiders.

Thanks. That's new info for me.

Why not join your son? Or better , reitre in Malaysia, Indonesia, thialand or China. YOu can park your investments in Singapore and continue earning dividends to fund your lifestyle in those countries.
I guess another factor is that govt is trying to lure their parents to come here to invest/spend (probably).
My friend's parents bought a condo in River Valley (near Orcahrd road) after their son got a scholarship to study in Singapore. because they thought that after he graduates, he will need a place to stay and work. But, since the property in Singapore is very hot now, his parents end up buying more than 1 (I think there are 4 or 5 near River Valley and 1 or 2 in Sentosa Cove). You can calculate that the stamp duty alone can pay for their son education.
But this is an extreme case though.

Just one of these extreme cases, enough for another 4 plus more students

so long china is growing and demand minerals, ores and coals from australia, the economy here will still keep on rolling.
read from the news that china is planning to build 4.0.0. NEW CITIES!! oz has more than 1000 years supply of coals and minerals to dig. so long china economy is booming, australia will enjoy economic success.
the downside is the rate of inflation here, increasing rapidly. property and rental prices are shooting up and alot of house owners and tenants are facing the stress. coupled with global warming, the fresh water supply is running out soon as well.
given the above circumstances, i strongly advise u NOT to migrate to australia which u so eagerly pm to me about previously. :-)

that was around 1990. i think u are around 2-3 years old at that time.
and D-ddy!! wasnt born yet.
"So long as China booms"
Australia is so dependent on China like you said. then that is also the biggest risk.
i was testing u, snakebluff.
fyi, i am enjoying the high interest rates and currency gains. guess which one?

if u cant deadlift 500lb, dont bother talk to me. ;-)

i noe some ppl from prc.. they had difficulties with the english parts, but no such difficulties with their maths.. they were doin an engineering diploma when i met them.. one of them was bagging As n distinctions for maths-related modules... so the doin any subjects in english was bullshyt lor.. note ar.. her english wasn very good.. she came to sg after finishin her high school in china... she went in to ngee ann poly straight.. and i think her parents paid for her passage over here.. and she was doin part time also..
while u are struggling with your 8 to 9% mortgage rates, i am enjoying your 8 to 9% fixed deposit rates. Within this picture, i am the winner even though i dont deadlift 500lbs. So dont show off your run down house which only proves to the world that you cannot afford a nicer and newer house given the current situation of high interest rates rates and high house price.

I would be 7 years old at that time. But most people around your age didn't have a uni education I believe. My parents didn't.

I was still referring to the very young PRCs :(
The secondary schools maths questions are so full of "essays" that I know quite a number of people who do badly for maths because they just don't understand the questions. It happens to some of my ex-tuition students too, those whose English are not as good.

I can only manage 286 lbs for 2~3 reps only
That's abt 1.7 times body weight though after 8 mths of training.

there are but not as many as today. back then, getting a degree was a big deal. the govt then also practise elitism to allow only the best of the best to have access to tertiary education. which resulted in a lower population of graduates vs the non-technically trained.
when the economy changed in the mid 90s, all were caught off-guard, technology demands surge at astronomical rate and i remembered that time around 97, there are very few indians nationals here and we seemed to oooh-and-aaah at their presence.
There were two polys and NUS wasnt even offering degree in information system yet. the whole past of elitism and population segregation by IQ and school results, backfired. so near the 2000 millenium bugs, the SCS and NCS import huge number of FTs to support the industry demands.
i was wondering why, if my peer and i are given the equivalent opportunity to study at the local uni, we could support the industry well. but for someone at the top's mistakes, the whole population paid the price.
if your parents have access to tetiary education, i strongly absolutely believe they will have no problem in becoming highly qualified consultant or management by now. that is what really piss me off.

not bad. that is good enough. i remembered pulling my 400lb deadlift after training for 1 year too.
say, tmorrow is the sg strongman contest, why dont u pop in and take a look?

u perform much better than those weak hypocrites; on one hand ask for emigration details, but publicly profess he is a pap supporters. i dont direct my response to that kind of person with such character flaw..

Not going... Too far, and got many things to do... which includes projects, homeworks, sports, social life and hobby/self-things. Not to say I'm too far from going... I can't foresee holding up 85kg logs at all.
Since you are based in Australia, and likely to be permanently, I might have some things to ask you about certain products there after I do some more extensive research. Will pm u more details when I finish my thesis write up, likely to take some time...
