I really cannot believe it!
Since when staff have to pay for a company farewell dinner for CEO or GM?? Which company does that? And which company will force staff to go and make them pay?
Moreover, this is going to cost $35 per staff. To ensure good attendance, many HODs "persuade" staff to go and make them pay on their own. Why can't they be mindful of staff who may have difficulties financially?
Everyone wants to make this a happy occasion to show appreciation for the old man who has contributed 35 years of his life. But I can bet my last $ that there will be many sulky faces on that night. How to be happy feeling robbed like that?
Aiyah a lot of places also like that one lah..somebody senior going away, someone wanna por LP organise farewell and make everybody pay.....wrong forum lah.
that's like so normal in the SAF
bloody CO go off, we pay for his dinner.
some high ranking moron come for visit, we pay for his makan.
knn, their superscale pay need us to pay?
and give me back my daily $5.50 per meal, i can buy better food than whatever's catered.
Can I write to MOM? Boss robbing staff leh!
Staff pay money for boss to score points. I totally despise that. I hope they die faster!

This is organised by SAFRA.
I have attended farewell dinner for CEOs in non profit organisation before. Orgn absorbed. Farewell gift also Orgn absorbed. But SAFRA's one, staff pay.
If it's a personal or staff level thing, like you and the GM has a good working relation and you want to thank him personally, then it means it is organised by individual staff. Then rightfully, staff should pay. But this is a company level thing, initiated by the senior management, those who can afford many $35 dinner!
Besides, staff are forced by their superior to go. You want to force your staff, you jolly well pay for them.
If they want to charge the staff, it should be strictly voluntary basis. They charge the staff and force the staff to go, this is just so wrong! What do we call that? Extortion? Robbery?
