they pay more den us.
so which 1 u think the uni will pick?
what maybe happening is taking in more international students = subsidise local student = less place available for local student...
what goes around , comes around..a flawed model
But I can bet that the Internal students have better grades han most locals.Though sad its true. Most of them work much harder as they know they have to and dnt slack around.
Not saying tht all
if ur results cant beat the international students. den shut up.
for i am 1. i cant go to local Uni becoz my grades are just worse compared to my local/oversea peers.
so?
i go for private uni.
its my fault i din study well.
if u study well and cant hit the grade, means u have no ''talent'' in studying or just that u got the wrong way of studying.
so stop whining and find a alternative route.
i have studied in aus and never regretted it.
Studying in singapore is not a good idea at all cause its an old and outdated mode of system which produces "paper students" rather than "practical students" well versed in the working world.
pls dont compare international students with local students,
international students in singapore come from 3rd world countries which has a similar mode of study system, their results from their countries gain entry into singapore is highly subjected to monetary reasons.
U will not find students from the US, Aus, Canada, coming to Singapore to study do you?, well that speaks a lot about singapore..
Personally i have known people who did bad in the singapore education system but doing very well overseas

pls do analyse the statement in Red. Good grades doesnt mean clever students..due to the sh&tty meritocratic system in singapore, it just resulted in lots of brain drain

On the contray, the international students have once comment to me that our uni's academic standard is almost as equivalent to their master degree in Europe and has actually a good standing reputation but, of course not as reputable as harvard, yale etc.
I do think our education system focus more on the academic achievement and lack of focus on the personal development. However, there is pro and con.

For engineering, our honours degree is equivalent to a masters degree in the UK.

well, if you are now in a local u, or graduated from one, then i will take your word for it.
if not, you are just a wannabe outside looking in and call the grape sour because you cannot reach it.
i am not dissing undergrad or grads from other sinkapore u. i think some of them are great, but i do place a premium on graduates from nus or ntu.
call me bias, i graduated from NUS. and proud of it.
everybody will definitely be proud of their institution of graduation definitely. even in K2. its a well known fact there are diploma and A level grads who can easily enter local unis but choose to study in overseas unis for the experience and culture significant to the country and heritage, thus breaking away from the norm of SG education system.

well, at least accord me the basic courtesy of answering my question to you. Are you from a local U?
I don't doubt you. I got a place at USC as well but I choose to study local becos after calculation, "bo kow lui"....ppl all choose their U for various reasons. I would agree readily with you too that some of the angmo Us are good, if not better than NUS/NTU/SMU.
But don't trivalize about the ease of getting into the current 3 sinkapore U now. It is not that easy. Like I said, if you are in one, then u r entitled to your opinion. otherwise, you have not 1 iota of credibility to write the things you wrote above.

ignore this!
Muggers may not achieve good results.
Truly good students can understand/remember every single formulas and applications right until the day they sit for the exams and sometimes they can continue to remember things 5 years down the road as well.
