Mass wear black T shirt? what for. A lot of ppl already wear black T-shirt.
If lionnoisy wants to protest, I want to see. I will donate money to lionnoisy to produce the tshirt.
CASE
can, SDP cannot
Singapore
Democrats

The Government is doing its
darndest to show how hypocritical and discriminatory it can be.
How else can you explain the fact that Consumers Association of Singapore) is allowed to hold its march
while the SDP's is banned?
Let's take a closer look at the two
events:
1. Both activities mark the World Consumer Rights
Day,
2. Are held on the same weekend,
3. Will take place
outside Parliament House (2007 for CASE),
4. Are open to the
public,
5. Will carry signs and placards,
6. Have theme
T-shirts.
Its hard to see that with all the similarities
how the Government justifies its ban on one and permission for
the other. Until, that is, you take a look at the
differences:
1. SDP's "Tak
boleh tahan event is targeted against Government price hikes while CASE's
"Walk with CASE" wants to "stop the marketing of
junk food to children."
2. One involves opposition
members and human rights activists while the other involves PAP
MPs and the Minister for Health (guest-of-honour).
3. One
fights for economic justice while the other promotes street wayang (Why can't Mr Khaw Boon Wan simply pass guidelines on junk food
advertising instead of this elaborate show?)
In modern
societies, people draw up principles and laws specifically to
prevent such kind of discrimination and arbitrary rule by
governments. Its called the Constitution.
In ours, Article
12 states plainly: "All persons are equal before the law and
entitled to the equal protection of the law" and that "there
shall be no discrimination against citizens of Singapore."
The
contempt for the Constitution shown by the PAP will be made even
starker for all to see this weekend.
The brazen-ness is
more evidence of the Government's desperation to tighten the lid
on an increasingly restive society.

Ha ha, I remember that one. Why wear black? Because "A lot of ppl already wear black T-shirt." So the protest by default already has participants and therefore is proof that it is a success, which then goes on to show that the agenda of the protest is substantiated. It cannot fail. If the color chosen is purple, or canary yellow, or some less common colour, then the success or failure of the protest would be clearly visible. The success would be greatly relished, the failure greatly dreaded. The risk is not taken.
Actually I was just commenting that wearing black Tshirts is a stupid way to protest and I add as ridiculous as Mancha's illogical inference.
I am willing to bet $10000 that there will be more than 20 people. 20 more people want to join me? Its a sure thing.
Be silent no more

The late S Rajaratnam and former deputy prime minister, once recounted what Lee Kuan Yew taught: "If you want to break someone's window, tell him that you are going to burn down his house. So when you really break his window, he'll be so grateful that he'll thank you for it."
So when our Home Affairs Minister tells us that he would consider liberalising Speakers' Corner to allow limited forms of demonstrations, do we celebrate?
(Or, for that matter, when he says that he will give the public a "full account" of Mas Selamat's escape when he won't answer questions by the public, should we commend him?)
Our right to speak and assemble peacefully cannot be taken away by the Government. We own that right and anyone who takes it away has robbed you. Let us never forget that.
And when the government robs you of the one thing that makes you what you are - human, you don't whine and you don't beg. You go out and take it back.
Through the years, the PAP has stripped us of all dignity and value. It tells us that it feeds us and gives us a nice airport. In return, it wants us to bow our heads and be silent.
Be silent even as it ridicules us and lies to us.
Be silent even as it bribes us to look away when our elderly have to work when their bodies can take no more.
Be silent when the poor live on biscuits and Milo, and needy families get evicted from their public housing.
Be silent when they take our hard-earned wages and refuse to give it back to us or tell us what they do with it.
Be silent when they engorge their bank accounts with our money and then tell us that they are worth even more.
A people silent is a people without a soul. And people without a soul is life's saddest tragedy.
When God breathed life into us he wanted us to live it, not pawn it.
The nay-sayers and the agents of autocracy will try to wring every ounce of hope left in you. They will try to demoralise you with their "be realistic" lectures. They will try to instill fear in you. Don't let them.
If you do, they would have silenced you yet again.
Come Saturday let us, with dignity and peaceful resolve, choose not to be silent any longer. It is not complicated. Just by being there with the rest of us who have pledged to not sign the Faustian pact, you will make a difference.
Every once in a while, an opportunity comes along and calls us to demonstrate our courage and to do the right thing. That opportunity is Saturday, 15 Mar. Come.
"You live in such a way that you cannot claim a single thing as your own; and it would seem that you consider yourselves lucky to be loaned your property, your families, and your very lives.
All this havoc, this misfortune, this ruin, descends upon you not from alien foes, but from the one enemy whom you yourselves render as powerful as he is...
He who thus domineers over you has only two eyes, only two hands...he has indeed nothing more than the power that you confer upon him to destroy you.
Where has he acquired enough eyes to spy upon you, if you do not provide them yourselves? How can he have so many arms to beat you with, if he does not borrow them from you?...What could he do to you if you yourselves did not connive with the thief who plunders you, if you were not accomplices of the murderer who kills you, if you were not traitors to yourselves?...
Resolve to serve no more, and you are at once freed.
I do not ask that you place hands upon the tyrant to topple him over, but simply that you support him no longer; then you will behold him, like a great Colossus whose pedestal has been pulled away, fall of his own weight and break into pieces."
- Étienne de la Boétie, 1552
I am not that sure the poor people will understand terms like Faustian Pact and appreciate Etienne de la Boetie.
Workers Party no you-know-what to mobilize the masses meh? I thought they are for the People and all that jazz. They can always compare Milo price 2007 and 2008 to illustrate inflation put in a diagram.

At least we are agreeable that wearing black T-shirts is a stupid and ridiculous way to protest. As for logic or illogic, thats subjective.
![]()
Logic is by defintion not subjective.
I cant believe the Left of PAP Worker's Party are not organizing the inflation protest instead. Arent they supposed to highlight the massive inflation and thus the increased hardship of the poor and as well as the inadequate subsidy blah blah? Guess the Left of PAP is also part of the PAP too.
Protest? Protest and then what? Protest to bring the government's (i.e. PAP's to you) attention to massive inflation and inadequate subsidies and blah blah. As if the government is not aware of this already. But what can be done. Go the way of Myanmar, and Malaysia, force local prices to be fixed while external prices increases. Protest with some anarchy and destruction, and not achieving the purpose is an exercise in futility. How many can take time off from work to protest? Disrupt ordinary living, just to get the government's attention and nothing more. Isn't that stupid too. A better option is to engage the government. Results could be achieved, slowly but surely. Emulating street protest is not for Singapore. There are prople who are peeved at not being able to do this. Let the Romans do what they do in Rome, here it will be different.
You know, I would be glad to bet and would like to define the numbers as in it, not a safe distance away or flight in the usual after-event.
I cant disagree that a party that do not represent the peoples voices do not deserve the peoples support but am more disagreeable in representing a small number.
Regards

I was there. The turnout was good considering the fact that not much publicity about the movement was make known to Singaporeans. Saw people young to old wore black and shop around in Centrepoint. IN the past, I never saw so many wore black in Centrepoint when I did my shopping there.
Evidence that SDP is anti-Singapore : when Obama praised Singapore's educational standards, SDP's Chee sent a letter to Obama and back stab Singapore. He is going around the world telling the world what he thinks of Singapore ie a lousy place with lousy political climate.
What is a lateral reflection of Bye Chee?

Question: If Singapore education standards so world class, why ppl go Havard, MIT, Yale. They can always go to NUS, just as good what.
In any case, hloc care to put the money where your mouth is?
I forget PAP already protest at themselves. Its called CASE. Guess PAP is better (Lefter) than the Worker's Party. More Power to the People's Action Party if they CAN combat inflation otherwise no number of Keystone Kops will stop crowds from protesting.

When have you see S'pore Pools telling us how much we could bet
They only state min sum as $0.50
PM me your handphone number and name (since you are the one taking my bet) so that I could contect you on the amount I wish to bet....
sorry i am not a bookie. YOU asked people if they wanted to bet not the other way around. YOU could always pm me your handphone number and name and NRIC first if you are that interested.

Neither am I...... But PM me if you change your mind.
So please in the future do not solicit bets if you are not a bookie.
Will more than 20 people turn up? Given the target audience of the ads (in English), no. Most probably not. Given inflation is still relatively benign probably not.
If inflation spirals upwards, good luck. Then maybe the AWOL Worker's Party will finally take some action.

Can't help it if you can't tell the difference between 'figure of speech' and claim (if any) that I'm a bookie......
