btw hi yi ge.
hi!
thanks for helping me to summarize.
no prob yi ge.
now imo employers dont just look at academic qualifications. they want "all rounders". n now more uni grads compared to the past. university is another institute of higher learning. every university wants to stand apart from each other. what sets their grads apart from the rest. the ads by the local unis say it all.
Originally posted by eagle:22-26 pointers have more potential to enter is totally different from them having more ability. Anyway that's beside the point.
Yes, academic results is the primary criteria. But you are still missing the point that 'equal opportunity' still exists for most of us (not talking about white horses); everyone has the same opportunity to do well and go into a prestigious university. Whether they make use of that opportunity is a different matter.
With regards to your last paragraph, do you understand how their application process works? Have you ever applied for admission to these universities? Perhaps if you have applied before, you would understand that academic qualifications is, although a main criteria, not a guarantee against those with lower qualifications than you. This is my main point.
I sometimes do wonder how does it digress till this point? I'm not even talking about matters on holistic assessment when it comes to university admission in the beginning!
I know what you're saying - so let's spare the reiteration. And no, let's not digress any further. Stating Stanford and Cornell's admission criteria to bring forth the point that other non-academic merits are important is not the point - because we are still talking about local university admissions.
As much as i loath repeating myself, yes, what you're saying is true, however, they're also known collectively under "Discretionary Admission Scheme" here in Singapore Public Universities. I'm talking about local context, because this thread is about local universities admission, so let's not bring in foreign universities. 10% vacancy are set aside for applicants under this scheme. So what does this tells you?
I know what you're trying to say, but please be reminded that i am talking about the local context. So let's not deviate so much from the original topic.
As a matter of fact, stupidissmart had already succinctly summarized what i am trying to bring forth in the first place. So let's not engage in a cyclic debate on academics vs non-academics for university admission.

okok, Discretionary Admission Scheme wasn't in my time. That time, CCA scores were included as bonus in the overall calculations of results. Seems like admission criteria has taken a step backwards. It's like removing mother tongue as a criteria for admission. Yucks.
Still, my main point is that your usage of the term 'equal opportunity' is inappropriate.

Alright, seems like i cannot find an appropriate word to bring forth my point. My bad. haha. Can't blame someone who's been drinking quite a bit before replying to Mister Gedanken (pretty infuriating too, he wants me to be an aspiring environmental hygiene manager!)
Yes, it seems so. Not that i wants it to be that way, but to me, it just seems that they are really 'discretely' shoving CCAs off the consideration. Can't really do anything about it.

Uhh, dickhead, how is that at odds with what I've said? Is your hard-on for a fight so big that you can't even work out which side you're on? ![]()
Stop salivating, read carefully and don't make more of an idiot of yourself than you already are.

Yeah, that explains a lot of the tripe you're posting. Back to the toilet bowls with you, and hopefully you'll do a better job of that than of posting here. Just a word of caution - if you trip over yourself in the toilet like you do here, you might fall in and drown, so please do be careful. ![]()
actually, ccas and other what-nots are kind of important in the admission into uni, or rather the admission into the uni's courses. just look how competitive medicine, dentistry and law are. i doubt that mere st As are enough to enter the particular course, and thats alr not counting the interviews and essay tests one has to go through to enter.
similarly, smu also requires individuals to have a particular edge over his/her respective competitors. in fact, smu has the slight tendency to veer away from academic credentials and focus on other aspects of achievements in a person. this ranges from cca to representing singapore to starting a business etc.
its just fking sad that even tho our gov promised us education from young, its merely a foundational one. when it comes to the tetiary level, you're all out on your own in the bloodthirsty cutthroat environment.

You know something about proper courtesy when addressing an issue at hand? Instead, you chose to hurl mindless cursing and ramblings that makes you sound nothing really impressive, but much like an obnoxiously inane whiner.
Seeing whatever posts you've come up with, you're just some loud vessel with absolutely no substance to boast of. All you can do is just to hurl personal abusive words at people, and not remain within the topic of interest.
So where's your brain gone to? Read carefully on your mindless ramblings? You must be kidding me, dim-witted boy. Grow up and learn to handle argumentative discussion in a proper manner. If you don't show respect to others nobody will do to you.
Mindless ramblings? You're the one who claimed to come up with an original thought when all you did in fact was agree with my point. Then, when all the holes in your "argument" are shown, you blame alcohol, and then you get in a huff about manners, obviously to throw a smokescreen around your stupidity. On top of that, you get right into the game you claim to eschew (i.e. lack of courtesy) and even more, you call me mindless when you couldn't put up an argument to convince a five-year old. Your hypocrisy is astounding but to be fair, anyone as hopeless as you would have to resort to desperate measures to live with himself. ![]()
This is like shooting fish in a barrel - keep supplying the ammunition, fool. ![]()

Gedanken,
Please take your personal attacks/insults elsewhere.
If you think the forumers here are too stupid for your liking, you can always seek higher grounds outside this forum.
Thank you.

And who died and put you in charge?
Given how you dragged out a shit-slinging match over eighty-some pages with a whole raft of different forummers, YOUR hypocrisy makes the other moron look like Honest Abe. ![]()
Your track record on this forum is pretty damn filthy, so you've got no goddamn place being sanctimonious. The difference between you and me is that I'm honest enough to avoid pretending to be civil.

Gedanken,
Nobody hurls insults like you. If you cannot even "pretend" to be civil. What is the point of you coming into a discussion forum ?
If you have some personal issues and needs some psychological help. Please get the help you need, instead of coming here to vent whatever frustrations you seem to be accumulating in your life.

No, I'm just fine, thank you very much. As I told you before, schadenfreud is a much misunderstood pleasure, but you're forgiven for not getting it. That sort of thing does take a modicum of intelligence.
Keep being a passive-aggressive hypocrite, though - it's good for a laugh. I'll have to mention this thread to fymk, jondizzle, and the others you've flung mud at. ![]()
Oh, and damned right nobody hurls insults like me, but I do keep it to morons who have it coming, your good self included of course. It's part of the fun of being on this forum. ![]()
Now, little Miss Hypocrite, are you going to drag this on and make it Mud Fight Part II? Come on, you know right down here is precisely where you belong. Do I have to bring up the old thread to remind you? ![]()

No thank you, I don't like deriving pleasure from other people's suffering.
Only a mentally deranged chap (like you ?) enjoys such acts. Like I said, you seriously need some psychological help.

That's it, you're almost there. Bring the real jojobeach back! ![]()
By the way, "deranged" is by definition a mental issue. Your tautology only serves to underline your stupidity. ![]()
Keep going - you're already getting knee-deep into what you advocated against in your first post here. I'm more than happy to keep you posting because you're going to get right into it. You just can't help it, but that denial mechanism keeps you insisting that you have the moral ground, so you're the one who doesn't have both oars in the water, you double-hypocrite. ![]()
Fool. ![]()
What, no reply?
Okay, I'll go do some other stuff for the moment and come back later to see what you fooloshly imagine to be clever comeback. ![]()

Fool.
You're not the only one doing other stuff in between post.
Seriously Ged, what are you trying to prove here ?
Hurling insults getting you anywhere in life ? I doubt it.
Do you HAVE to hurl insults at people and make every place you visit so unpleasant ?
FYI: There's really no need to hurl insults at people to get your point across. Not so difficult to understand, is it ?
Do I HAVE to be on this forum?
Do I HAVE to prove anything?
Do I HAVE to make morons like you understand my point?
Do I HAVE to make life comfortable for inbreds like you ?
Do you see a pattern forming here? Actually, given your inane tendencies, I'd probably have to draw it out in crayon for you. ![]()
Anyway, keep up the hypocrisy. it's hilarious. ![]()

So why are you here Ged ?
If you can draw it out in crayon.. I'd be happy to grade it for you.
Yes I see a pattern forming here. You're really not as smart as you think.
Laugh all you like, makes you seem more like an insane person.
Time for your medication Ged ? Need me to call your nurse for ya ?

There ya go - I knew you could do it!
Don't give me all this bullshit about being *ahem* pleasant and avoiding personal attacks. You're not just as bad as me - you're even worse because you do it and then get up on your high horse.
Like I said, you're nothing but a low-down hypocrite. Just keep proving me right. ![]()

My God, you really are that stupid, aren't you? I've already said I get my jollies kicking seven colours of shit out of fools like you. Is that so difficult to understand? ![]()
