Aren't we stakeholders entitled to dividends? He is getting $3 million + a year for titles pulled out of his ass. Is that the biggest handout of all?
Singapore was already a modern nation before the 60s. Not the slums or mosquito swamp land as many would let us believe. The brits had already laid in infrasturcture of trade and industry which we then built upon.

Some uncle I know who works mostly in Hong Kong, although he went to get a Sg citizenship becuz he plan to retire in sg, also worry the same thing.

older generation of singaporeans are more naive. so long they have 3 sq meals a day and a roof over their head, they are contented.
these people were brought up in hostile environment where abject poverty and social instability were rampant in the 40-50s. one of the school teachers punishment back in the 40-50s were kneeling on bottle caps and smacked across the back with huge rotans. they have little concept of what is human and civil rights.
